Wow;

Donald Trump says he got North Korea to commit to destroying a major missile testing site but "we didn't put it in the agreement because we didn't have time."

Chara signed for 7.5 with a 44 mil cap

that would be the same as someone signing for 14 mil today

- senstroll

Any major free agent signing that leads to a cup victory has to be considered a good signing if that player makes a significant contribution - which Chara surely did.

if i remember well, bruins traded for him as a pending rfa.
than sj gm threatened with an offer sheet (which boston would have trouble with matching). he then was offered a new contract by sj.

- MaximusAurelius

I thought L.A traded him to Boston, because they wouldn't send to a team in the same conference, then Boston flipped him to SJ for a draft pick

what are you trying to say?

I think what Wedgie was asking was when the last "super star" ever made it to free agency. Especially one that doesn't already know where they are going (Suter/Parise/Vanek/Niedermayer). Usually there are very good players who get overpaid and fizzle. Gaborik fits in there too.

Tavares if on the market 1st of July is the best player ever to reach unrestricted free agency. at 28 he is still on his best years - unlike most ufa's under last cba

Let's do a comparison, shall we?

1st year: both win the Calder Trophy.

2nd year: McDavid wins the Hart Trophy, Art Ross Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award.

Matthews wins a bowl of soup.

- Atomic Wedgie

But did both win the calder?

I agree with this, BUT! it would be difficult to imagine that a player agent and agency are not highly motivated by a juicy commission from a contract that is expected to be in the $80 To $100 million range.

92M at 4% commission (usually between 4 and 10%), 3.68M or more in commission

No, you tried to pawn this off like some big Bruins gaffe and are now backtracking. This discussion was about UFA signings not the signing of an RFA after a trade - you really think SJ would've traded a 1st if they thought an offersheet would've been successful?

Martin Jones was a piece of the Lucic trade, which was accompanied by the 13OA pick, and Colin Miller. Jones was then flipped for a first the next year and had nothing to do with an offer sheet seeing as we just traded Dougie Hamilton and Lucic and would've had the space to match if we so chose. There wasn't a need for a backup to play as much as he should be playing and the Bruins decided to move an unproven backup for a 1st round pick.

Sweeney essentially got Colin Miller and 2 1sts for Milan (frank)ing Lucic

not sure how this works, but if i'm matthews, i'll just set a fixed fee for the agent and instruct him to get at minimum x million for 8 years.
the agent would have gotten a commission with previous agency as well, so not a difference..

uh what? sure he did, but if we're giving anyone credit here it's got to be Sweeney for getting 2 1sts and Colin Miller for Lucic...

You aren't giving him enough credit. He managed to get Colin Miller, Mat Barzal and...okay there's nothing funny for 2016...for Lucic.
