I thought Artemi Panarin won it that year? McDavid (frank)ed up his collar bone around American Thanksgiving and was out a substantial time.
Edit: Never mind, I see this has already been pointed out - RickJames77
What is this, take a shot at Wedgie Day?
Are you going to call me out on whether or not Matthews actually won a bowl of soup? |

Matthews around 10-11 or if his agent his smart he ask for the superstar 13-15% of the cap deal giving him 11- 12.75 per.
Marner and nylander, nothing over 7.5 - Fakepartofme
I laugh at the ppl who think Matthews is worth 5 million per year more than Marner.
Maybe 2-3 million per year more but no more than that.
The whole argument that Matthews is a #1 centre doesn't automatically give him 5 mill more lol.
Marner has done just as much for the team as Matthews has in their first 2 seasons imo. |

Matthews changing representation to the Orr group is an indication that he will be seeking big money. When Matthews and Marner sign will have an impact on how much, as well their performance this season if they do not sign this summer. So far, as Wedgie pointed out, he has not performed as well as McDavid, so why would similar money? Marner should get similar money to Pastrnak - no more, no less.

Can anyone think of any good "top free agent" signings in the last decade?
The only one that comes to mind is Hossa.
Parise I guess wasn't terrible, but not great either. |

This is actually a non-story.
Matthews' agent changed agencies. Matthews decided to stick with the agent.
It's not an indication of anything.
Although I'm sure he's seeking big money - with whomever represents him. |

Do Suter and Parise count? They were already decided.
Chara is probably the best ever. |

From what I read, Mathews agent was the one moving to the Orr group...and he just followed staying with his agent.
I dont think it really means anything different

Chara. He is a bit more than a decade, but that was a good signing. He is also a freak of nature. |

I don't agree entirely, what you said about the individual agent is correct but:
you have to wonder about the motivation and timing of that individual. He was likely approached with something like "we can get more money for Matthews than Brisson.... plus we'll throw in an extra bonus for you....."

Chara signed for 7.5 with a 44 mil cap
that would be the same as someone signing for 14 mil today |

I agree with Chara ; Forgetting the decade limitation for a moment here four more good ones:
Adam Graves NYR
Ed Belfour Dallas
Scott Niedermayer Ducks
Scott Stevens New Jersey
(all won cups after signing with their new teams, and were a major factor.) |

if i remember well, bruins traded for him as a pending rfa.
than sj gm threatened with an offer sheet (which boston would have trouble with matching). he then was offered a new contract by sj.
