Interesting thoughts

I don’t see any way Winnipeg wouldn’t match a 4mil per offer for Hellebuyck

But the Trouba one is interesting

Giving up a 1st, 2nd & 3rd for him wouldn’t be so bad, since we have the SanJose 1st pick next year from the Kane trade

I would keep Risto though,
and ice a defense of:
Dahlin-Trouba
Scandella-Ristolainen
McCabe-Bogosian
Guhle-Nelson

That’s a legit defense would would help our forwards invaluably since our previous defenses have struggled to get the puck up the ice

And would also obviously be a huge help to whoever we have in net for us

Who do you think gets their contract bought out?

I think
Paul Martin (SJ)
Lucic (EDM)
Bobby Ryan (OTT)
Dubinsky (CBJ)

All of which I would be interested in signing to a lower Cap contract for the Pens if they were bought out.

Offer sheet someone not scared to stand up to Tom Wilson, but small enough that Wilson won’t cower behind the ridiculous rules of the nhl.

No just resign Reaves & tell not to worry about the rules - just punch (frank) out of Wilson whether he says yes or no. The team can handle a man down for the time he sits & is suspended after he breaks Wilsons head in half.

Then by playoffs time if both teams make the annual 2 round pilgrimage Wilson may just play hockey.

late night random Hunwick thoughts...

if Toronto called and said hey we will take Matt Hunwick back if you take Matt Martin...what does GMJR say?

also....what if EDM retained $1.5M on Lucic and they took Hunwick? That would give the Pens Lucic for essentially ~$2M cap hit the next two seasons and then the last three years at $4.5M. The last three years may be painful but youre looking at a much higher cap by that point and it would be a Hagelin-esque contract (paying for a niche skill, no necessarily goal scoring).

Costanza is bad, not sure he'll dump Lucic for Hunwick bad. I realise it's getting 'something' for a salary dump of sorts, but would you want the Pens to do that if the roles were reversed?

I'm hoping if Hunwick can't be traded he gets comfy in a Pens uniform & settles in & plays some good hockey.

Edit: Just saw Lucic has another 5 years of service left on that contract. Holy (frank)ing guacamole! Still don't think Costanza does that & pretty sure JR doesn't either. Better off resigning Reaves.

Sounds like there's some smoke around the Domi rumors. I wonder if Sprong will be the other end of that deal.

Domi might be a draft day trade for a pick in the top 10. Puts the Pens out of that little deal. (could change that to first round I'm not complaining though)

No team in their right mind is trading a top 10 pick for Max Domi. He’s worth a late first and a B level prospect at best.

Was there something new reported?

OEL has reached an 8 year deal with ARI which may impact their willingness to shop Domi.

A trade will include other parts & possibly a trade up or down. Maybe I should have expanded.

Montreal has been mentioned as a possible partner to swap picks with players involved. No idea how realiable that info is.

If I was a betting man I'd say it would be Sheary+ going back for Domi.

Take it for what it's worth, but TIOPS has stated that the thought around the league is if Domi isn't a Penguin by June 23rd, many be will be surprised.

Now, I don't know what Domi's true value is around the league anymore. The buzz was big on him at the draft, he was a standout in his rookie year and then just kid of faded.

I don't know if he's still highly regarded or regarded as a "pretty good" player. Personally? I wouldn't give up more than just Sheary. If it requires a pick I'd be hesitant because the Pens already are of scant picks left over the next three years.

That's pretty much how I feel. The Pens don't really have the luxury of moving a 1st, 2nd or 3rd for a guy like Domi IMO.

I would honestly try to low-ball AZ by offering Simon and one of the Pens 5th rounders this year and go from there as the starting point.

Or better yet, if they offer Sheary, try and get AZ to throw in a draft pick. Maybe a 3rd for next year. I'd be aggressive at first to see what they can milk before having to acquiesce.

Fair or not, Domi's value is much higher than that. I don't see any motivation for AZ to move him for Sheary. It's weird because the money ball approach would show Sheary as much more accomplished as a point producer while Domi had one good season but still has a lot of potential. Ultimately though, Sheary is a passenger and Domi's upside is worth way more than that.

Sheary + Sprong/Jarry might get it done...

I might do it with Jarry, but not Sprong. I'd take the risk but worst case is having a good chunk of cap space and 3 roster spots given to Sheahan, Hagelin, Domi who could all score around 10 goals each. Sprong and ZAR are unknowns. Just think we need to be careful to make sure each line can score goals.
