Bill Meltzer: Draft Profile: Joel Farabee, Quick Hits, Charity Classic and More

I feel like this team more than anything right now is missing a drafted, home grown gem like Simon Gagne on the wing. Responsible two way winger who is a pure shooter. I know I harp on size and I stand by getting bigger but in my opinion Simon Gagne is probably missed by this team more than any other player in the last 20 years because nobody has ever filled that type of role.

Holbty got screwed out of the Conn Smythe IMO
- YuenglingJagr

Honestly. I don't feel sorry for him. He didn't start for the Caps in the beginning of the first round. I thought he had done stinker games. He was big when it matters but I don't think he was the Caps best player night in and night out.

to GTFO of Ottawa

my main point is that I think a team could make a very competitive offer and stay under the 6.1 threshold

- YuenglingJagr

True, but from I've read Ottawa is making it a priority to resign him.

They can match any offer and my feeling is, any offer in the realm you are speaking of, they will simply match and be done with it. Not that this WILL happen because I doubt he will get an offer sheet from anyone to begin with.

My feeling is that the offer sheet would have to be in the mid 6 range just to get to the realm where Ottawa wont match. PPG+ wingers don't grow on trees.

neither do PPG defenders but they seem okay with getting rid of those too

I don't think Stone goes anywhere else. It's just all a dream. He is exactly who the Flyers need/should want

The Flyers look weak on the wings with only Giroux, Voracek, Konecny, Simmonds, Raffl, Weal and Lindblom as top 9 options. No one in the AHL to speak of, either.

I thought that Giroux did a fairly okay job on the wing last year.

Also, I think that this team misses Pronger and Timonen more than anything right now. As good as Provorov is right now, he can't command the ice like those two could.

Definitely do miss a prime Gagne, though, he was a great player.

Dude couldn't buy a point for the first month or so after he was called up. However, he played at a 44-point pace over his final 11 games during a playoff push. I think he's a fine fit for the 3rd line.

I thought he looked like what i expected out of a rookie. Really not that far off from the first half of Patrick's season. Flashed at times, looked intimidated at others. I am sure he lacked in confidence when he wasn't burying opportunities. He certainly is not someone I expect 20 goals from next year, but i also would not classify him as Meh last year.

Looking at Farabee's Elite Prospects page (https://www.eliteprospect...layer/334036/joel-farabee), it also lists his 2 brothers. Now, I know that each man is his own, but looking at family comparables (Jacob: age 24, 6'4", 201 lbs; Jesse: age 22, 6'3", 185 lbs), I think he should fill out just fine with time.

Impossible. The male body completely stops growing in height and weight at age 18. He will remain the same for the entirety of his NHL career.

I hear you but as much as I love Gagne, if you are going back 20 years I’ll take a late 90s Eric Lindros please.

Late 90's? I'll take mid 90's Eric Lindros. That is before the concussions became an issue.

Well he did say the last 20 years, which gives you 98 era.

I hear what your saying and we all know Giroux is no Lindros but at least Giroux has had many seasons of domination. Provorov may not be Mark Howe but there is potential. I don't even see a top notch winger coming in the pipeline.

I agree. But I'm just saying we haven't had that presence yet.

But then again, remember, he's really 27, those Russians always lie about their ages.

What about Giroux?

Also, I think Konecny could be that guy. Like you said with Provorov: not there yet, but there is potential. Guy's only played 2 seasons, so I think the jury is still out on him.

Also, I get what you're saying, and while they don't have Gagne's all-around game, all of Simmonds, Knuble, and Hartnell all had multiple 30+ goal years.

I'm in Orlando Florida for Cisco Live and it is literally 900 degrees out with 95% humidity every day.

I can't believe people choose to live in that.

I dream of Konecny being left up on line 2 or 3 all season long. Asinine to play him with the 3rd like scrubs.

You want to grow this kids offensive game and take advantage of his skill.
