I would take Dobson, simply because we don't have the elite crosby/malkin the pens do to make up for a weak top 4 d. Demko's looks good and our D has potential, but we need to add more to it. Our future top 6 does look a lot better. I also don't think either is BPA over each other so go need.

Vancouver doesn't need just one type of D or one type of F to win a cup. What they need the most is a generational talent. Not going to get one, (frank) you draft lottery.

A lot of the D have different qualities. As long as they don't bust, really could use any one of them. Smith, Boqvist, Dobson, Bouchard, Hughes, Wilde, Miller, Tychonick, McIsaac. Obviously not all of them are worthy of the 7th pick but trading down or with a 2nd round pick.

With the 7th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft the Vancouver Canucks select Brady Tkachuk, winger, from Boston University.

Rationale for the selection:

The Canucks have a lot of organizational holes to fill, beyond Horvat, Boeser and Pettersson there's not a lot out there for kids under the age of 25 with high potential.

Two areas of great concern are center and defence, wings are full of young guys like Boeser, Pettersson (hopefully turns into a center), Dahlen, Baerstchi, Granlund, Virtanen, Leipsic, Goldobin, Lind, Gadjovich, Palmu, etc.

There's only two centres in the entire organizational chart under the age of 25, Bo Horvat and Adam Gaudette, this is a major concern!! Tkachuk has very high praise from people I respect so I'm going to chose him.

If Tkachuk had been taken at six, Leftcoaster's second choice was Quinn Hughes, who was taken by Pete representing Detroit. Rationale here was Tkachuk is capable of playing center and that's the Canucks biggest need is a number one center (if Pettersson stays on the wing), and the other is a very high ceiling defensemen, which would have been Hughes, despite his size, which I'm not a fan of, but I can't ignore his high ceiling potential. Tremendous skater and great offensive skills.

There has been some speculation that they could be interested in drafting centerman Jesperi Kotkaniemi, who has been projected in the No. 4 to 10 range.

Kotkaniemi at the draft combine said.

“I’ve heard they’re going to draft a centre, I hope it’s me.”
