Risto is the better defenseman outside of one year, two years ago when Klefbom got carried around defensively by a beastmode Larsson.

Klefbom at his best is better... But that has been so few and far between it really isnt as big a factor as some would have you believe.

Not a real fan of either player since both are fairly one dimensional and deficient in thier positioning and own zone. But moVing a leftie for a righty makes sense. As long as the deal is relatively a one for one deal its a deal most should be able to live with it.

Yeah. Didn't take long for freelancer to change sides and get his own personal ref to drop the ban hammer

Keep in mind Risto played with no one. What does he look like playing 2-3 minutes a night less with an actual partner

Writing is on the wall for Klef, if we can take Risto that is a win

Oi!

You think a deal could be worked out with Klefbom going to the Av’s for Barrie?

Too many rumors all year about him being available.

Think the team wants to move on from the injuries he has

Fair enough.

It’ll hurt to see him go though. Despite his injuries and the fact that we constantly discuss moving him, I really love him (and his contract) as an Oiler.

Pure speculation on my part, but I'm starting to wonder if he doesn't listen to the Oilers medical staff.

Something isn't adding up with his name always being out there.

Maybe he’s (frank)ing Nurse’s sister?

Regardless it is odd that he’s always speculated to be on the move.

He's really good and the organization is going to deal him for well below his value. Completely makes sense to me. Chia is a (frank)ing moron.

Both players have their downsides and they both have tons of potential. I know Sabre fans don't think highly of Rist and his ability to play both ends. Still he is young and has a lot of talent. There is a good chance that with the right coaching he could improve his game.

Now I agree that we have seen games where Klef has looked amazing. Like a true top pairing defender. However there hasn't been many of them. I also agree that a healthy Klef is better than Rist but Klef has never had a season where he was healthy. It is a gamble and I don't know if Rist is the answer. With his stats and cap hit, he might not be worth Klef but its not a terrible trade. If Klef stays injured or Rist ups his game (either is very possible) then the Oilers will look brilliant in hindsight.

Couple updates to the blog. Oilers sign Patrick Russell and acquire rights to Nolan Vesey from Toronto.
