This cuts both ways.

In my book, those critical of RoR are the ones looking deeper into the factors in play.

- Lunaion

I see ppl on here compare ROR to Scheiffle (for example),
who plays with great wingers and a really good defense who can get the puck up ice
Plus, he gets mostly OZone starts

Well no freaking sh!t that he has better 5v5 numbers

Couldn’t agree more. I think Risto was the victim of overhyped expectations. I think he’s a solid #2. If he plays 2nd pair and gets better matchups he will be a beast for us. If he plays with a Dahlin I think that could possibly be the best defense pair in the East in short time.
- Pegullaville

I see a lot of crap he is getting compared to myers

now IMO risto was never as bad as the bad myers

but myers showed a lot more flashes as a sabre than risto has

did I ever expect risto to be the norris holder, nope

do I think dahlin takes a lot of pressure off of risto, and we see more good from risto

hell yeah

If we take last year out of the equation, the sky was the limit for Risto. Players have down years, it happens. Dahlin takes the pressure off. He will be a good player for us for the duration of his contract and maybe more.

I’m good with that.

Or just keep this core for one more year, play them a ton again, draft high again (because we will remain garbage) and then we will eventually have a real core

- sbroads24

Good goalie play drastically changed how good Winnipeg was from last year to this year

Assuming we bring in a goalie,
that could be a big help for us as well

Mittelstadt & Dahlin (along with some other kids) are poised to make quite the impact as well

The defense should be MILES better

And we are integrating speed all over the lineup to help us play the style Botts/Housley want

But you’re talking like Girgensons & Pommer are gonna be back on Jack’s wings
And we are gonna have among the worst goalie tandems in the league again
And our defense is gonna be among the worst in the league

None of that’s true though

So you think even with Dahlin, Erod for a whole season, Eichel healthy, mitts, Guhle, Nelson, Ullmark and a potentially better bottom six, and a possible fix at LW, we'd still be garbage?

That seems like unwarranted pessimism

So you just on face dismiss the comparison and make excuses for the player you like more. I've never made the comparison, but it deserves a closer look than that.

I don't like viewing RoR as a victim.

Plus Sam & Okposo not having an absolutely awful 1st half
And adding speed to the lineup with guys like Bailey & Baptiste

Without even making a trade,
this team should be better in many different ways

How much better?
Tbd

But to ignore all the ways we are already improved is quite pessimistic
I agree

So O’Reilly seemed pretty confident in his interview with Dregs at the World Championships, seemed like a guy that wasn’t going anywhere. These rumours aren’t going away though. I’m on the fence with ROR. Part of me wants to insulate Mitts, but I see the reason to trade him and get a winger also. I guess it all depends on the return. These next few weeks are going to be really interesting.

So OZone vs DefZone starts don’t matter?
Please
It’s obviously easier to score when you’re starting 20ft from the net instead of 200ft away

And you really don’t think ROR would score more if he played with guys like Wheeler & Connor, or Ehlers & Laine?
Come on man

These aren’t EXCUSES
They’re legitimate factors
You’re just ignoring them

Let's temper our expectations. Only a couple of months ago, many on this board thought that Kane was going to bring back:

1st this year
young, promising NHLer
Top notch prospect

Instead we got:
1st (1 or 2 years from now)
Youngish AHL/NHL tweener who might make it to the 3rd line
4th round

Fair
Difference is that we don’t have to move O’Reilly
With Kane, we just had to take what we could get
And Center is obviously a position of much higher demand

Yes, if we are playing ROR and Ristolainen 25 minutes a night.

Guhle helps, Dahlin helps but will be 18 freaking years old, and Eichel is already elite.

And no I don’t think we will be 31st. But 27th? That’s what a 10-15 point jump?

That's fair.

I'm very excited that we're 3 weeks away from seeing the roster as it should appear in October.

Hopefully we'll all see the direction of the team by then. I definitely expect Botts to make a "signature" move to make this his team
