Now might be the best time to trade Hoffman.
Don't get me wrong, I'd hate to see him go. He's a really nice player.
His trade value probably won't be higher than it is this summer, especially to a contending team.
Trade him for futures (of value) - whatever that might be.
I know pure goal scorers are hard to find but if the Sens aren't going for a cup next season - and who really thinks they are - it's a luxury they don't need.
If we end up with Zadina it makes the move even easier.
Money saved can go toward signing EK if he wants to stay. |

There is no truth to the rumour that Melnyk has missed payroll. Utter nonsense.
There is no valid or credible mention of it anywhere on the internet other than a couple of goofballs posting vague mentions of it on twitter. Believing this story is like believing anything Donald Trump has to say.
Investors will be there for the Lebreton development, because Melnyk owns the rights to it as his group was the one selected. Anything being bandied about is just noise.
As for the validity of anything coming out of TSN, I would say look at their hyping of a Karlsson trade at the trade deadline. Nothing there. Dreger's insights come from his connections to a relative in the Leafs organization so if he were commenting on them, I would tend to believe it. As far as I have heard, he has no inside connections in the Ottawa Senators organization. Let's not forget that Karlsson has said he doesn't want to go. They will offer a contract and he will either sign or decline.
When I see a credible report that he is being aggressively shopped, then I will lend it some credence. - jaz258
The rumours about Melnyk---whatever, they could totally be wrong.
But do you honestly believe that Karlsson wasn't involved in trade talks before the deadline? Yes, he wasn't traded, but every single NHL insider talked about him potentially moving, even Bob McKenzie. I'm sorry, but if you're questioning McKenzie's sources, maybe think about why you're doing that. None of us want to believe that Karlsson will actually go, but we don't have to pretend like it's 100% certain he's staying.
I'm sure he does want to stay, but it takes two to tango, and if Ottawa isn't willing to give him lots of money, then they'll pretty much have to move him. It'd be idiotic to do it, but I feel like that's where this is heading.

The proof will be in the pudding when stone signs an offer sheet with a 7m signing bonus that the sens don't match. - Tumbleweed

An offer sheet will probably net you a 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Seeing Colorado has your 1st next year, would Brodie & our 2019 1st (lottery protected this time ) be an option? |

Ultra rich people like Melnyk. Do not give in to selling anything due to public opinion of him In fact it would probably have the opposite effect. Get use to him being here for a lot longer.... his past record has been dubious for awhile now...but i am willing to see what happens this summer in regards to moves before i once and for all make up my mind. This summer is probably the most important summer in Sens history
I do believe this team is cursed.... tally up the long list of tragedy, misfortunes, bad luck |

I am not fully sure he wants to stay...all my reasons would be conjecture though and opposite of what he has said publicly |

I can buy the sale rumours, but making Alfie President of Hockey Ops would be a bad start. Unless Alfie is a incredibly quick learner, he is not qualified.
First thing first, get some new ownership. - JACMAN

You mean Reinhart, Nylander and #32 for Hoffman and Stone? - DutchSenators
That package from the Sabres would not even scratch the surface of Stone + Hoffman. |

Agreed. They're really rare. A lot of things need to lineup for them to happen. It's a rare time where a lot of things do line up with stone.
But ultimately the player has to want to leave...which wouldn't be a stretch. |

I don't see why he'd sign a short term offer sheet either. Too risky if he gets hurt.
. If he signs an offer sheet it'll be for lots of money long germ. - david22[/img]
Agree.
And nice trolling Tumbleweed, we all know how irrelevant your team has been since the founding of the Senators.

Dorion will make Karlsson a contract offer before any trade is considered. If he trades him shortly after the draft without making EK an offer he will lose the trust of the fans.

This was bitter sweet. First you talk about us loosing two great players, then you bring us right back up with a potential ownership change.
To be honest, I disagree with you that Karlsson won't be signed. I think maybe you are just trying to prepare yourself for the worst, or maybe I am delusional, but I think he gets signed and stays.
Hoffman, on the other hand, it seems like he will be gone and with all the talk about it over the past 2-3 years, it would be sad to see him go but I could live with it. Especially if it can bring us two young prospects, or a first round pick and a player. And if Zadina falls to number 4 then even better. I felt like Hoffman was off this year, and that basically the whole team was. It was great to see his chemistry with Duchene though.
We can only hope that the team is sold and now with the season over, it's all I can think about. I would hope that the buyer puts in a contingency plan to keep Karlsson around as part of the transaction. I just hope that the sale goes through fast, if it does, so that we can perhaps hold on to some of our better players before they get traded. |
