What's a better fit? Stone at 26, Hoffman at 28, with the Sens heading into (probably) a lengthy rebuild, or a 22-year old Sam Reinhart, a first round pick, pick #32 and a prospect?
Say it takes them 4 years to get back to contention - with no first next year - those guys are at or over 30. Reinhart would be 25, and that first round pick would be 22 - jcragcrumple
The no first next year kind of hurts this. It's harder to trade away those assets in order to rebuild knowing you'll give away such a good pick.
I actually think Rienhart get's an unfair amount of hate, but I dont't think this trade works.
The pick next year is interesting. But I think the addition of Stone and Hoffman will make that pick worth less than the Sens would want. |

Okay, I will try to play along. Assuming those will be the lines:
??? Eichel Okposo
Nylander O'Reilly Reinhart
Rodrigues Mittelstadt Pominville
Moulson Larsson Baptiste
I would just stand pat and sign JVR (slight overpay because UFA but good player). Or a Vanek as stop gap. Reinhart + 1st would not get you Stone + Hoffman. Maybe Reinhart straight up for Hoffman would interest the Sens but then you still have an issue of an empty spot in the top 6.
If we would go Reinhart + 1st road for Hoffman + Stone we also would like a Mittelstadt or Nylander included, and I think that is a no go for the Sabres? - DutchSenators
Nylander and pick #32 this year.

What's the current status of the proposed new arena in the Lebreton Flats area?
Thanks in advance. |

In another move of utilizing the Sens assets to maximize revenue, Melnuk was seen standing with a cup outside the nearest Queensway exit after the last event. |

I can buy the sale rumours, but making Alfie President of Hockey Ops would be a bad start. Unless Alfie is a incredibly quick learner, he is not qualified.
First thing first, get some new ownership. - JACMAN
I agree with this 100%. My personal hatred for the guy aside, he was a tremendous on ice captain for this team and big part of the Sens identity. Melnyk aside, he claimed he wasn't interested in putting the hours and work in required to learn the business. Nor does he have anything close to the cash required to be a meaningful owner. If a 1% stake puts him in the "ownership group", whatever, call yourself an owner...
I sat beside him at some Ottawa Sting appreciation night about a month ago - disinterested, not particularly engaging, dare I say aloof.... Now I am sure he wasn't trying very hard that night, but as a Leaf fan, say PLEASE put him in charge...
Who do you think this guy is? Brendan Shanahan?

There is no truth to the rumour that Melnyk has missed payroll. Utter nonsense.
There is no valid or credible mention of it anywhere on the internet other than a couple of goofballs posting vague mentions of it on twitter. Believing this story is like believing anything Donald Trump has to say.
Investors will be there for the Lebreton development, because Melnyk owns the rights to it as his group was the one selected. Anything being bandied about is just noise.
As for the validity of anything coming out of TSN, I would say look at their hyping of a Karlsson trade at the trade deadline. Nothing there. Dreger's insights come from his connections to a relative in the Leafs organization so if he were commenting on them, I would tend to believe it. As far as I have heard, he has no inside connections in the Ottawa Senators organization. Let's not forget that Karlsson has said he doesn't want to go. They will offer a contract and he will either sign or decline.
When I see a credible report that he is being aggressively shopped, then I will lend it some credence. |

The proof will be in the pudding when stone signs an offer sheet with a 7m signing bonus that the sens don't match.

I've said on here multiple times but, Ottawa would be absolutely stupid to trade Hoffman. He is our best goal scorer on a good contract, our fastest skater and has amazing chemistry with Duchene.
If Ottawa trades Hoffman, we might as well trade Duchene too, because Duchene has openly said he wants to play on the same line as Hoffman
I should also add that I think if Karlsson isn't retained and/or Hoffman is traded.... PD should be fired on the spot |

Stone is not that dumb to sign for 5 years now. Then he is 31 when he runs out of his contract. Better to go short or 7 years + |

I don't see why he'd sign a short term offer sheet either. Too risky if he gets hurt.
. If he signs an offer sheet it'll be for lots of money long germ. [/img] |
