I seem to recall that a Trump presidency was at 0% chance by the polls. |

Unless JT leaves nyi
Unless karlsson is traded
Unless doughty is traded
Unless carlson signs with a different team
Unless toronto signs a depth player. |

I think JT leaving is almost a foregone conclusion and is more expected than Perry. Same with Karlsson. Doughty would take the cake though for sure. |

Man, why do a lot of fans claim a certain good player isn't getting traded unless widely overpaid for? It's how people discuss Hamilton in Calgary. He's worth 30 McDavids.
Do people forget Phaneuf has been traded for garbage like 3 times now? The first time being at a point where he was considered to be much better. |

I'm not sure about overpaid, but I think fans simply don't want to see their good player traded unless they get a player they'll like at least just as much.
You're right though, most trades involving a superstar ends up being for a package that's either way too much (Duchene) or way too little (Thornton, Seguin, Roy....).
It's rare you see a "star player swap". |

Are you referring to how Nashville underpaid to get Subban?

You guys think this is just a joke, but have you stopped to think about the ramifications for Hockeybuzz?
Today's announcement has sent a chill down the backs of all of Ek's unnamed sources.
Today is a dark day for all of us. |

I can understand not wanting to see a star player, or a really good player go for nothing. People overstate their own players value though because there's a lot of variables we aren't privy too. (Leaf fans do it too and I'm guilty).
Example, I really don't want to give up Kapanen in any deals this summer for a Dman but it's likely he would the one to go. I'd rather see Brown go. |

Craig Button had a good point the other day on Leafs lunch:
Stamkos' agents basically told him that there was no downside to entertaining other offers - even if you are 99% certain you want to remain with your existing team, why not at least hear what the other teams are offering?
So Tavares may be staying or going - but him not being signed yet isn't necessarily an indication that he wants to leave Long Island. |

Allow me to throw out one other random thought:
Kapanen (at least at this point) is a 3rd or 4th line winger, with perhaps a higher ceiling.
I don't really follow the NHL (other than the Leafs) to really know anyone who would be his equivalent on defence.
So if somebody from the Coyotes throws out a defenseman's name that is objectively the equivalent to Kapanen, I've probably never heard of the guy. So I'm going to think the deal is B.S. |

No one says it is.
In fact most believe he’ll do exactly that. See his options |
