I think it would be Reinhart + 32.

They're both RW. Id probably still do it. It appeals to Melnyk's cheapness

Edit: what Ott really needs next year is a first round pick.

Reinhart, 2019 1st, #32, Pominville (salary dump) for Stone and Hoffman?

That would be a major move

I doubt they trade with a rival. Can ship those it’s anywhere, why help a team in your own division.

Trade for Domi (Picks plus roster player - Larsson?)
Trade for Drouin would be ideal but they would more likely move Galchenyuk or Juulsen for (ROR and prospect). Skinner or Hanifin would be a nice addition as well for ROR but might acquire more trades from the back end

Lebron = MJ
MJ = Lebron.

They were the best that ever played the game.

No one is trading for Larsson.

Ror is worth more than Galchenyuk, Juulsen, Skinner, and I would bet, at this point, Hanifin.

They'll want a boatload, but what has Hanifin done yet to show he's an elite top-pair defenseman?

Hes lost in the defensive depth and they probably don't want to pay him money when others are coming up

I don't think divisions mean anything anymore. You play a division team 5 or 6 times (depending on the year), and conference teams 4 times

Divisions are dead

Why exactly would you be "paying" him if he's "lost in the defensive depth"?

This is true... but LBJ never lost in the first round. Whats worse losing in the finals multiples times or losing in the first round multiple times?

I think if you look at the trade statistics, you'll notice historically that a vast majority of trades, especially significant ones, are not inter-division.

Funny thing I've noticed on these boards about, "potential." When the Sabres want to trade for a guy who has it, but is yet unproven, they still are expected to pay big time.

But when another team wants to trade for a Sabre who has potential, but is yet unproven (Nylander) his value is somehow worthless, and the Sabres shouldn't expect anything for him.

I mean they have so many good defenseman that have already surpassed him and they need to be sign soon

So they can risk moving him knowing that it won't hurt them

I think your line of thinking is right, but the player comparison isn't great. You're comparing a guy who hasn't broken out of the AHL yet vs a guy who's been in it for 3 years, and is only a year+ older.

I agree, maybe I should have picked a player other than Hanifin, but still, like you said, the point is there.

Let's not forget Seth Jones wasn't elite Seth until he left Nashville

I'm going to disagree with the hockey IQ he was drafted beacuse he was beyond his years and ready for the NHL
And he got very High Praise for his intelligence in the game

Right. So it's not "they don't want to pay him", it's "he's an expendable, middle pairing dman with high perceived value."

Didn't forget that. It's not lost upon me that it's commonplace for dmen to take several years to reach their potential, if they indeed reach it at all. But Seth Jones was already showing his ability and potential prior to leaving Nashville.

I don't think that Hanifin will ever be as good of a defenseman that Seth Jones is. But the scenario with Hanifin being expendable to bring in a top center is very similar.
