Darren Dreger says a Sabres O'Reilly trade is "more likely now, than not likely".

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie said Tuesday that Holland isn't the only general manager in the Top 10 willing to move down, which could actually lead to fewer trades on the draft floor.

If this is indeed true, which I have no reason to discredit, I think this is a sign that the draft is very strong. When a lot of teams want to move down, they realize they can get the same talent a few picks later and not miss a beat while picking up an extra pick. I think if Botts really likes someone in the latter 3rd of the 1st round, he should easily be able to trade 32 to get it.

i mean you can say this about literally any player
- TheSabresTaco

I gave reasoning beyond that though too

Hamilton is obviously a talented offensive player
I’m just wondering if a more defensive oriented guy, who would hang back a little more, would give Dahlin more freedom to skate the puck up the ice

I’m not saying don’t trade for Hamilton
Just that we gotta make sure we aren’t just trading for “good” players,
But also guys that fit into the role or spot we need filled

A big part of the issues we’ve been having is that we are asking guys to play roles that they just aren’t good at

Vegas has been so good this year (imo) bc they’ve plugged players into roles they excel at

So it makes sense to me that we have to consider that when trying to build a “team”
and not just a collection of talent

Thanks
Kinda sounds like what we already knew

No harm in letting teams outbid each other for him
See what the best offers are,
and decide from there

If no one blows Botts away,
then we are 3-deep at Center
And that would be a good thing

- jdfitz77

I know you're pro-Reilly, so I really don't want to get into it (I'm neutral, more or less) but it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to hold onto him at least for this year. next year, to me, makes more sense, as CM will have a year under his belt and you'll know his strengths and weaknesses.

However, if you're able to get a haul for ROR, you do it, and find yourself a defensive specialist who can win F/O and start the majority of his minutes in the D end to protect CM.

I mean, we're on the same page here, totally. But Hamilton is an all situations, top pairing dman. He's a great number 2 or a low end number 1. You put him with an experienced Dahlin and you will ruin lives.

I believe in fit. My battle standard is culture. So I get it.

It's reason #1 why Kane is no longer here.

I agree with all that
My only problem with trading ROR is when ppl say he’s easily replaceable & they are ok with a mediocre return for him just to get rid of his Cap hit

If it’s for a “haul”
Then of course we should consider doing it!

And then yes, definitely find a 3C to take on his defensive responsibilities
We want Jack & Mitts scoring,
not taking defensive zone faceoffs

That’s what i thought too
I’m just wondering why the heck they’d trade that type of player though?
Seems like a bad idea
Makes me think there’s more to the story

Why is a #1 or #2 damn getting traded twice so early in his career? Makes me wonder too... esp when it doesn’t happen often, if ever with those defensive players.

Well, first, you need to know the rumors are true that they are shopping him. After that, you need to look at the needs of Calgary. Draft picks and a 2nd line center. You put Backlund on the 3rd line and all the sudden the Flames look much better. So, the GMs talk to each other, vet both players, figure out their warts, their personalities, their work habits and so on, and say ok, I know neither of us are shopping these players, but we can fill each other's needs.

So the offer is ROR, 32 and 2019 Buffalo 2nd for Hamilton and Foo

Don Sweeney sucks and found Hamilton to be expendable so he gathered up a bunch of picks instead. Now you also have to believe that Hamilton is being shopped, which may or may not actually be the case, and he may just be Calgary's best asset to trade, like ROR and Reinhart are for us.

As the ROR guy, I approve of this trade.

I would prefer Bennett to Foo, though. I would throw in Nylander

Hamilton I think is an interesting one,” noted Friedman. “I do agree with you that Calgary I think is going to do something. I think they’re going to try to get into the first round. I think that Hamilton is a guy whose name will come up. Just like O’Reilly, there’s a lot of interest. Guy scored what, 16 goals last year? He’s a really talented guy.

“It’s interesting. Boston traded him. I don’t know what it is. I think he’s not a typical guy. It’s nothing bad, he’s just – I guess – different, and some people like that and some people don’t like that. I don’t know.

“But I do think there’s going to be interest because he’s a hell of a player. And so I think it’s going to come down to Calgary, do they get something that makes them want to do it. I think that’s what it’s going to come down to. I don’t know that they will. I think the price is going to be extremely high. But I think they will consider it.

“The one thing I should say, because these always turn into fiascos when they get transcribed; I think Calgary is going to consider just about anything.

“And the other guy too I think is going to be Sam Bennett. I think they will consider Sam Bennett. And if they get an offer that’s good enough on Sam Bennett, I wouldn’t be surprised if they pulled that trigger too.”

I'm just going to take a wild guess maybe he's gay

O’Reilly, scandella and both our 4ths for Dougie.

Dahlin Dougie
Risto McCabe
Nelson guhle
Bogo

Rotate bogo in and out of lineup on back to backs with Nelson and guhle to keep him healthy. I love that D core. All young and bogo will be gone soon. All three lines can move the puck.

ROR McCabe and 32 for Skinner and Hanifin

Sign JT, sign Bernier

Skinner Eichel Reinhart
Mittelstadt Tavares Okposo
Smith ERod Baptiste
Wilson Larsson Pommer

Scandella (to start) Dahlin
Hanifin Risto
Guhle Nelson
Bogo

Bernier
Ullmark

It’s not perfect but until someone earns a call up and gets Larsson out and Pommer but that’s a playoff team IMO if the goaltending holds up

Then in 2019 you have the young kids working into the lineup more.
