No doubt about it, but for the minimal-risk of only an extra half-mil of cap space, it's possible that Lucic gets back to form with a change of scenery. I think we all pretty much know what we have in Ladd and it ain't much. For 500k in cap space, I'm willing to take a calculated risk.

BTW, Ladd had the best +/- of any Islander forward, I believe. Wasn't that also supported by his Corsi or some other advanced stats? Not saying that I want to do this or that it's even possible to have happen (Ladd has a NTC and Lucic a NMC) but would you do a 1-for-1 swap of Lucic and Ladd, given the opportunity?

Lucic has a cap hit that's 500k higher than Ladd's, but is also two years younger. Both deals have 5 years left on them and are, essentially, buyout-proof.

Some will disagree but I say no. Ladd is terrible. There's nothing I like about his game. Nelson is inconsistent but I don't dislike the guy as much as people on here. He'll probably be gone by the start if camp but I was hoping to see him with a new coach.

I wouldn’t mind Ebs Barzal and Lucic together. Add some grit and net front presence to that line. Not to mention nobody will phuck with Ebs or Barzal. Kind of like Wilson being on OV and Kuzy’s line.

He was by far the best defensive player on the team and has been a solid 2 way for years, despite offensively stilted va his contract.
