As long as he is not head coach I am fine with him on bench.

Trotz or Daryl Sutter would be my top choices. Keefe and DJ Smith seem very promising. No thanks on Blysma. I would like Scott Stevens brought on to help the defense.

Bylsma is nowhere on my list. I think he's over-rated. Obviously, Trotz would be great, but he is going to be compensated well to stay put in Washington. Also agree that Keefe and Smith are intriguing. Not sure about Sutter...

Not too many coaches like Trotz available so Keefe or Smith should be fine choices if Trotz is not possible. I love the idea of a tough coach like Daryl Sutter for the Isles.

I think Bylsma has effectively coached his way out of ever getting another head coaching gig. He may have value as an assistant somewhere, but I don't want anything to do with the Disco Doofus.

I'd think Tippett and Trotz are best with NHL experience.

Keefe and Smith are interesting, but how many times do we need to have a guy learn on the job?

Interesting thing on Keefe is how analytics-based he is. And Lou has learned a bit about that since being in TO. Isles were created analytics based but coaching and GM tended to downplay that aspect when it was important or in key moments. With coach and GM out of the way, might see someone like Keefe (i'm fuzzy on Smith's analytical background, but could be just as apropos since TOR used it quite a bit).

Best part about Lou is whoever he hires I have a lot more faith in him being the right choice. I am fine with the Analytics guys, but if they don't have a defensive minded system it will not work. I just want to see the Isles play hockey the way it's supposed to be played at the NHL level. I am tired of seeing 3-on-1 breaks every 5 minutes, guys wide open in front of our net as the D-men are no where to be seen, idiotic no look back passes in your own end, etc.

I truly believe this team has the talent (sans a real starting goalie) to be a very good team with the right coach. They won in spite of that Dolt Capuano a couple of years ago.

More importantly Lou won't sit in his office and watch the season slide away like Snow did year after year. If things are going south Lou will step in and fire people if need be.

Wait, wait, wait. Do you mean to tell me that sitting on your hands doesn't fix things and incompetent employees don't fire themselves?

Lou has always struck me as the type who doesn't "suffer fools gladly." That's why he didn't need to spend much time with Garth and Doug to begin the house cleaning.

Not saying that I want to do this or that it's even possible to have happen (Ladd has a NTC and Lucic a NMC) but would you do a 1-for-1 swap of Lucic and Ladd, given the opportunity?

https://frshockey.com/nhl...ucic-trade-request-rumor/

Lucic has a cap hit that's 500k higher than Ladd's, but is also two years younger. Both deals have 5 years left on them and are, essentially, buyout-proof.

No doubt about it, but for the minimal-risk of only an extra half-mil of cap space, it's possible that Lucic gets back to form with a change of scenery. I think we all pretty much know what we have in Ladd and it ain't much. For 500k in cap space, I'm willing to take a calculated risk.

I'd do it just because Lucic's younger and I don't expect Ladd to get any better. But like you said there is almost no chance of it happening.

Absolutely (frank)ing not! I’m still somewhat positive Lucic will be able to rebound and produce 40+ points this year (still making him grossly overpaid mind you).
Ladd? I’ll be impressed if he cracks 35 points.

Wow that main thread is ridiculous, all we ever heard is winning is the most important thing to Tavares now they make a step in that direction and its he wanted weight. Weight sucked they lost a lot so this isnt even logical. Can't wait for this to be over
