Not sure if I missed this in any of the various articles yesterday, but is the belief that they will have the coach hired by the draft? |

Well, by all accounts, he wanted to make sure that the Islanders were truly committed to building a winner and that the franchise is heading in the proper direction to win a Cup sooner than later.
They've now: Hired someone with long-time NHL experience to overhaul the entire culture of the organization from top to bottom and purged themselves of the NHL's longest-tenured front office punchline and a putrid coach that couldn't manage the stress.
If Tavares wasn't talking out his ass when he said that his #1 priority was to remain an Islander for his entire career, I'm not sure what else he expects to see. I'm sure that he's interested in who they'll hire to run the bench, but I'm not sure they can do a whole lot else to appease him, unless he's going to wait until August to sign because he wants to see what happens in free agency. - eichiefs9
All signs point to 91 staying on the island. As you mentioned, they’ve basically done everything possible to turn this ship around. Gotten rid of all dead weight (no pun intended). I don’t see how he signs elsewhere after this upheaval. |

Daryl Sutter would be very interesting. I'm sure Garth had these types of names on his list when he hired Cappy and Doug. - ses111
Interesting name for sure......but I’d love to see a young “Laviolette” like guy come in. I also believe that Lou being brought in, screams Sheldon Keefe. I think the Canada connection is going to be brought in to appease 91. |

Everyone keeps talking about this guy or that guy from Toronto, but someone on Twitter last night (I can't remember who, otherwise I'd credit them) pointed out that when Lou went from NJ to TOR, he didn't bring anyone along with him.
I think he's committed to doing whatever he believes is best for the organization. Clearly he put his personal relationship with Snow aside and kicked his fat ass right out of the front office. Keefe and/or Smith would be excellent hires, but I don't think for a second that Lou wouldn't go elsewhere for what this team needs. |

I guess the question for JT IS...
1. does he want to be the franchise pillar (aka: main guy) (ISLES)
or
2. just a piece to someone else's team. (TOR, TAMPA, SAN JOSE, etc)
I'd be surprised if it was #2, but this is the summer of surprises. I still think/feel it would be #1... whether the Isles or somewhere else with the same scenario. - B.D. Gallof
There were some that said he was never leaving... just doing the "Stamkos". Pat Brisson handles both of them. So same treatment and decision.
Matthews just fired Brisson and went with Orr.
Too be honest... I would hate to tie up $10 million +++ for 8 years for JT. Up to JT and Lou now. |

I think they need a winner.....wherever that comes from works for me. Sheldon Keefe is an intreaguing name only because of his “success” in minor and junior hockey.
Clearly Lou is looking for the right fit and I’m just excited to see real change happening. |

Hey Gallof! 3 and a half years on HB and not one ban. You're here 2 weeks and I get banned. I throw out a very mild insult and you go run and hide behind EK's legs and get me banned. Vukota too(not sure of any others). You're turning this into a Tanner-like board. Which, by the way, I've gone round and round with him several times. We've insulted each other much more egregiously and never a ban. Why don't you leave the blogging to the bloggers, like Noel & Dan. Quit trashing OUR board! Why don't you just go back to banging out moronic tweets and leave us alone?! You're not wanted here. Oh, and have a nice day.
See you guys later! |

Apparently, you're going to see us MUCH later.
Hey, Noel and Dan left US! Dan explained he got a new job or something. I was surprised at the way Noel left us........no explanations, no good-byes, nothing. |

Yes, Dan continued to do some podcasts with Noel. Noel just disappeared and then showed up on Lighthouse or some other site. Not sure why Noel would burn his bridges, so to speak. Ses and I always told him his blogs/podcasts were "very fair".... - JohnScammo
I liked Noel. Now we're stuck with, well, I'll just leave it at that. |

Hey, I liked him, too. I actually met Noel in person, and he gave me an "Isles Buzz" plastic beer cup. Almost as cool as the trinket Ses got from Ledecky.... |

I love how jolly everyone is today. It’s like we just got a brand new expansion team.
Mark my words though the picks will be traded for goaltending and a defenseman. Also mark my words some players will be traded away some whom we never thought. |

I dont think its a coincidence that the isles are linked to hiring DJ Smith, who's the guy for the Oshawa Generals.......Tavares' alma mater. |

Yea I banned the islanders until he was gone. I might actually spend money this year to see this team. I just know this is going to be a totally different team

While I'd rather have a coach like Trotz or Daryl Sutter, if DJ Smith is the choice he sounds promising. |
