He is great friends with Stamkos so word is he's told Stamkos of his desire to sign in Tampa. With the cap going up, Tampa has lots of space. - Bolts91

I guess the question for JT IS...
1. does he want to be the franchise pillar (aka: main guy) (ISLES)
or
2. just a piece to someone else's team. (TOR, TAMPA, SAN JOSE, etc)
I'd be surprised if it was #2, but this is the summer of surprises. I still think/feel it would be #1... whether the Isles or somewhere else with the same scenario.

so, not primarily about winning a Cup or 2...OR the $$$?

Well, by all accounts, he wanted to make sure that the Islanders were truly committed to building a winner and that the franchise is heading in the proper direction to win a Cup sooner than later.
They've now: Hired someone with long-time NHL experience to overhaul the entire culture of the organization from top to bottom and purged themselves of the NHL's longest-tenured front office punchline and a putrid coach that couldn't manage the stress.
If Tavares wasn't talking out his ass when he said that his #1 priority was to remain an Islander for his entire career, I'm not sure what else he expects to see. I'm sure that he's interested in who they'll hire to run the bench, but I'm not sure they can do a whole lot else to appease him, unless he's going to wait until August to sign because he wants to see what happens in free agency.

Isles are showing JT they are very serious about winning and are not making it easy for him to just leave. I can see JT wanting to see how the draft plays out as well and I'm sure his agent is advising to wait.
