Watching the finals I think keeping Simmonds might be in the Flyers best interest. Obviously he was injured this season and I think he'll bounce back next year. His grit and toughness come playoff time is really underrated.

Agreed. I hope they come to an extension that works for all parties.

If you move Simmonds for 10 you could make a serious push to get into the top 3, as Simmonds really wasn't a fit for any of them right now. Just a thought.
- hereticpride

If you could do a 3-way trade and land Svechikov or Zadina by using Simmonds and your other 2 firsts, I'd be tempted.

I do hope Tom Wilson spends his day with the cup in Pittsburgh though

What would it take to get Dougie Hamilton from Calgary? I didn't realize they were missing THAT many picks from the draft this year. WOW.

I am scared that he'll sign something 5 years and then injuries continue to mount. I know people think he will have this resurgence like Giroux did but they play two different games. Simmonds game is about taking a punishment and not sure that helps as he continues to age.

Re: Andre Lacroix: Back in the early 70's I lived in Springfield (Delco) right accross the street from him. I used to play with his son. He was a bit of a hot head with his temper but overall a generous person. Got us tix to games and stuff.

Andre Lacroix is still one of my all time favorites. I was really fortunate to have seen those opening years of the franchise thanks to my Dad who purchased season tickets through the mid-seventies. Just hearing the name made my day that much better. Thanks Andre and thanks Bill.

He was before my time, but my dad told me about him.

This season will be huge. If he can bounce back to his 16/17 form, then he'll get a nice deal. If he struggles like last season, even if the production is there, he won't get as nice of a deal.

If he gets 5 years, you know that you're going to have diminishing returns in year 5, probably by year 4. But Simmonds is a rare breed in today's NHL. I don't think there's any player in the league who can do what he does when healthy. So if we're looking to compete in 3-4 years, I think you need to keep him if it's possible. I just fear we'll be down 3-1 in the ECF 3 years from now thinking "We need a Wayne-Simmonds type to get us over the hump."

Have to look at it in full context. Without getting into a longer term contract or giving up quality assets, how can you improve the position? With top prospects in the system, Elliott is the kind of player considering all the factors that you want as a bridge.
- MJL

so do you not think the flyers need an upgrade in goal next year?

getting a goalie, whoever that may be, on a 3 year deal isnt going to hurt any long term plans imo. 3 years is good term considering where Hart is right now.

IMO the flyers need a better, more dependable goalie next year. One who the team has confidence in; just my thoughts they dont have that confidence with what they currently have. Otherwise just spinning your wheels until you hope Hart or whoever is ready.

Actually, from what I've read, most people think the opposite.

Power forwards tend not to age well and age a bit differently than skill guys, like Giroux.

I definitely don't think he's in decline already like some people were suggesting this season. I think he'll have a career year point wise next season.

I am rooting for Knights in 7 or Caps in 6. I enjoy seeing the cup awarded at home
- YuenglingJagr

I'm rooting for the Caps.

I never wanted to hate the knights. But I do. A lot. Sorry.

Cackled like a little schoolgirl at the Miller fiasco. Also loved Reaves' one handed stick swing to the face of whoever that was. After he took a charge then an interference, Neal style. But on the same guy. And Engelland acting tough as nails in the last 14 seconds of the game lol

Classic.

I mean that is obvious. It has to be a no brainer type of deal. I still think the Flyers will do something. Maybe it's Gudas for a 3rd rounder. Could Laughton get you a late 1st rounder or early 2nd rounder where then maybe you get get Farabee at 14, Miller at 19 and Berggren with the acquired pick?

I do see some options for the Flyers because they do have some depth. If laughton were to be moved you have Vecchione as an internal option.

- J35Bacher

I think they make at least one move, but I'm guessing it won't be anything that big. Perhaps the 50th pick and a prospect/lower pick that can get them into the 35-40 range if I guy they really like is still on the board.

The only other move I see is maybe a deal for a short term fix at 3C. Again perhaps it's a package including our 2nd rounder and a non-top prospect that goes the other way.

Either way, we'll know soon.

Hexy has some chips to use with the 2 first round picks and an (almost) fully stocked farm. I had heard previously that Carolina was open to moving from #2 pick. Haven't heard anything since. Also, Calgary needs picks and they have some interesting talent up there. Should be an interesting few days.

#19 overall for Gaudreau

If Hextall was a decent GM, he'd get it done.

He's the first Flyer player I remember noticing as a little kid. This would be back around the 1970-72 time frame. Back then, he seemed to be the only guy who seemed to generate any offense or be any fun to watch. However, by 72, I was focusing what little attention span I had back then on Clarke. Even a 7 year old could see he was something special!

I haven't looked back but didn't Oshie not even have the puck when he hit Miller? Thought you needed the puck to do that but w/e. It has been a fun series to watch even though the Caps try to make it boring. They have enough firepower to make neutral zone traps exciting. I do love how locked in Holbty is (and how lucky he is). The Lebron meme of Neal missing the open net is top notch
