I don't hate Simon, but I think they can improve upon him. If we can dump Sheary, I'd be glad to keep Simon, but It's my belief that we need to get a little bigger and stronger at wing. We lost a ton of board battles this year and our smallish wings are a big part of that. With ZAR and Sprong being virtual unknowns, I think we should get a couple of bigger depth guys that aren't complete plugs.

Guys like Pouliot, Comeau, Kunitz, etc......proven players that can still skate and chip in on offense.

I'd dump Sheary first, mainly due to the cap difference.

ZAR and Sprong would be my 6th and 7th wings: one in the top 9, one as the next guy up.

If you got 2 guys affordably I could see moving Simon just wouldn't be a priority because he is cheap and young. I don't see him as the type that is weak along the boards like Sheary.

I'm not convinced we can dump Sheary tbh.....not at 3mil. Hope I'm wrong.

18 goals after 23 the year before and a lot of teams will have cap space so I think it can be done if they want to.

One-way deal just means he has guaranteed NHL-level money, it would have zero effect on our cap situation. We can still bury him in the A if he isn't good enough next year. Surely the Pens owners can afford at least one contract to not be 2-way?

I hope you're right, but I don't think he scored many goals unless Sidney Crosby was his center. Teams might think his numbers were inflated 'cause he's playing with the best player in the world.

Well... The finals is almost over. Let the wheeling and dealing begin! I hope Ruth is active in reshaping the bottom 6.

I'm less certain they want to move him though.

Crosby only assisted on 6 of his goals and Malkin 0 so he got he got 12 without them which isn't insignificant. He's fine as a secondary scorer, Pens are just able to replace him.

Good. We need less of his type.

Simon has a pretty good hockey IQ but isn't irreplaceable. That said I hope the Pens give him a one way contract. He's useful up and down the lineup.

Simon was an interesting case. His hockey IQ was good as you said, almost too good for the 4th and maybe 3rd line. He made very smart plays with the puck in both zones, but his overall offensive skill wasn't really good enough for the top-9. I think it was hard for him to find a proper place in the lineup.

That being said, I would have given him the contract as a depth player. He's great in a pinch.

Sheary absolutely lives up to his contract number. Pens' fans on this board have a weird distaste for him. Yeah, he flubs scoring chances, but he still does his job.

A watermelon on skates can score 17 points in 46 games on Sid's wing. This is kind of turning into Big Ben turning nobodies into multimillionaires....see Mike Wallace. Back to the topic at hand, he would need to clear waviers on a two way deal anyways so give him a one way deal and if its not looking great try to trade him for anything. He'll probably be gone next year anyways, whether on waviers or playing for Putin.
