So Moulsen, Okposo, and Nielsson all boys that played with JT and got big contracts that NYI obviously would not compete with. Strome was flipped for Eberle. Hmmm JT seems to be the real deal....

Whatever, he was the next piece of value. They didn't have to haggle over getting Grigorenko
- GilPerreault11

Would anyone be happy if we traded O’Reilly and a 3rd (mcginn) for zadorov, compher, and a 2nd? I sure wouldn’t.

That trade was a clear win for us. Grigs out of league, compher a 3rd line center at best and zadorov a bottom pair defenseman who would be behind Dahlin, scandella, guhle, and McCabe on the left side.

I didn't need sources to know this as most other Sabres fans didn't either but thanks for posting this so maybe common sense comes to us all.

You mean the Av's fan who constantly defends Joe Sakic is defending Joe Sakic by saying it was Roy who wanted Grigo??? I'm shocked

I officially stand corrected.

I always thought it was just some AHL team in Canada, which is why he was lent there, being close and all.

- TheSabresTaco

I do believe that Moulson and Quick's wives are sisters. So the favor of lending him to Ontario brought the families closer together. I could be wrong though.

Not sure if he ever went on record as saying it, but someone in Buffalo reported that his wife was from LA, so they wanted to get back out there and settle down. This is why some people here are speculating he retires after collecting a bonus from the Sabres this summer. He knows he's done/Sabres know he's done, so they did him a favor and let the family move to where they want to settle in.

Pretty positive the wives are sisters. Quick and Moulsons wives that is. Actually just looked it up. They are in fact sisters. I know Quick and his wife grew up together in Connecticut so one would assume both girls are from there. Ontario only being like an hour from LA keeps the sisters close.

And u say I’m stubborn....

NO ONE on here thinks that Grigorenko was a major part of that trade
He had struggled to the point where his only value was that MAYBE he could get back on track with his old coach from juniors

SERIOUS QUESTION
At the time of the trade,
where were u projecting Grigorenko in our lineup?
I think we had all but given up on him for the most part
With a few ppl possibly still hoping he could one day develop into a 2C

Even if he wasn't (He was, at least one of the top 3 peices) he still was a peice, and my entire point was that draft pedigree holds trade value longer.

By all means, try and find an article that says Grigorenko was a "throw-in" or a insequential peice at the time of the deal. I couldn't.

Literally none of the peices in that deal was a back breaker.

Ask 89, they wanted Risto and Bailey, not Compher and Zadorov. If Zadorov was such a "main peice" it's kind of weird he wasn't there 1st choice

So if Alex Nylander is traded today, he's considered a "throw-in" or "reclamation project", correct?

one or two more, sure. To total 4 or 5. Except they're better than a this guy.

Vanek, James neal or another actual nhl player. Agreed.

Good veteran leadership is necessary.

One of my employees signed an AHL deal with Ontario after his college season ended. Moulson didn't demand to be sent there but the Sabres guys asked him where he wanted to go knowing he was going to the AHL.

The Sabres did in fact do him a "favor" sending him there.

Moulson and Quick are brother in laws.

Moulson's wife is Quick's sister.

Happy wife, happy life.

I miss Fuddruckers. I remember the days when they had a side of beef hanging in the window when you walked up, but in the mid 90's people went PC crazy, so they had to put stickers over the windows.

I think there’s still more hope for him than Grigorenko at the time of the trade

Nylander was dealing with injuries last year,
and at least looked good towards the end of the season

Grigorenko never had looked good for us

But, to answer your question (even though u again refused to answer mine)...
yeah, to a degree Nylander would be seen as a “reclamation” of sorts
I’m sure no one is as confident now that he will even be a top6 player as when he was drafted & seen as a potential top line winger

So then they weren’t asking for Grigorenko?
Seems like they were taking him as a lotto ticket of sorts,
HOPING he could find his way reunited with Roy, but not COUNTING on it

This was his second year.

Next year, if his AHL stats don't improve, he will be.

Freakorenko had parts of 3 pro seasons before the avs trade

Alex Nylander is a reclamation at (barely) age 20 if he was traded today? Are we really saying that? Ffs.

Grigorenko had 36 points in 43 games in Rochester the year before he was traded.

Edit- Year he was traded

If Nylander does that, he's all the sudden a high end prospect again.

This is silly, Grigo was a highly touted prospect still when we moved him

I see Vegas is putting Tatar in the line-up....I don't know if this is the spark that's necessary...but SOMETHING has to change.
