I sure do hope you are right as the Sabres could absolutely use him ... IF he learns to play the game properly.
I have my serious doubts...I don’t believe that you can change a players drive and williness to compete. Shot, skating ability, positioning...drive, not so much.

- IonSabres

I tend to agree, but again, he's *apparently* making that change, according to Taylor. I'm more the optimistic type, but we really don't have much to lose at this point. I doubt he's got much value right now.

Interesting. I'd want to know Patches next contract before I pull the trigger.
- TheSabresTaco

More than Kane, right?

Throw out last season and the guy is a perennial 30-goal scorer

Chuk fits this team. I don't know about him on a character level, but the player fits the team. Age, speed, ability, LW capable.
- TheSabresTaco

Is he fast?
Never really noticed his speed one way or the other
Montreal has been a mess though

And character & work ethic probably need to be a concern with anyone we add to this room
Not sure where he is on those things

I really liked him a lot when he was drafted though
Was hoping he’d fall far enough that we could trade up for him
I’m surprised he hasn’t worked out better for Montreal
But he probably hasn’t been handled great either

They really need to burn it down & rebuild
They’re the new version of Calgary from years ago (with Iginla) when they stayed a borderline playoff team with no real hope of contending

From what I have read, he is a party animal.
I want players who are supremely motivated to compete and win...not those looking for a good time already no the way as their priority..JC, they will have 50 years to party like rock stars after their career ends.

yeah...kinda like the thought of Drouin next to jack and patches on the second line with mitts

the trade I proposed to the montreal blogger, brandon smillie, was:

ror and next year's second for Drouin, patches and one of the habs second rounders this season...

he was good with that

- Michael Pachla

As long as we could extend Patch for 4-5yrs,
then that sounds pretty good

I just don’t wanna sign him to an 8 year deal that’s lasts till his late 30s

Gotta figure it’s at least a 7 x 7 contract
At least

Can’t do that when the guy is turning 30 this year

i'd plan on six or seven years...perhaps they could keep it in the mid-40's

Drouin is intriguing, but he scares me as well, given his past history in Tampa and his stat line ... -25 last year with being sheltered (57% OZS) and only 13G’s while playing 17+ minutes.

Maybe he gets it soon, but that is 3rd Line production.
I guess there isn’t a whole lot on the Habs I would want except for their draft pick.

I don't think even 7x7 gets it done. He has 6 seasons that were better than E. Kane

If we could work out the contract with Patch, that move could certainly stabilize our top2 lines for the most part

Yeah,
only thing is that he’s significantly older than Kane when signing the new deal

I’d say the best we could hope for is 7.5per,
for 6 years
He’ll probably want an 8 year deal though

maybe a six year/$45 million deal would work for both sides...puts him ahead of kane, albeit with a year less...it takes him well into his mid-30's which might be a bit too long, but methinks he could continue being the player he is for the next four years or so....

I wouldnt hate that, but then Okposo would need to go imo. It would be 13.5 tied up in two over-30 wingers for the next 5-7 years

Yeah, he's 30 in November, and Kane is 27 in August.

Would we be able to give him 8 years? Can't remember how that works.

if they traded for him and he's under contract, I believe so...

I’m just hoping he’s desperate enough to do it

If we could get #7 from Vancouver,
then maybe Wahlstrom drops to us
He could end up being a really good scoring winger
Iffy that he’d fall that far though
I could see him going anywhere between 5-9

I could live with that
But u gotta think his agent will push hard for the 8 year deal
Too bad he wasn’t a couple years younger
Then it would be a perfect fit

Yeah,
8 years if he’s on our team
7 years is the tops if it’s a UFA coming from another team

We’d have to know before hand that he won’t demand to be signed till he’s 38

With Montreal, I would want to unhook Pacioretti from any ROR discussion unless they are willing to add productive players into the mix. I don’t think the character of Drouin and Gally is what the Sabres should be trying to acquire as a central piece...the warning signs are there already with those two.
Again, there isn’t too much I would want from them outside their 2018 1st.

As far as Okposo goes...
i want him with Jack this year

It’s the best way to get his points up
Then maybe we can move him?

Yeah, legit concerns from those guys

then they probably wouldn’t be available

Drouin is an extremely talented player...yeah he has issues, but him skating with jack is pretty enticing

Wasn't this the Kane conversation when he was in WPG?

You're looking at 5.5 for Drouin and 7.75 (future imo) for Patches. That's a lot of celery, with only 7.5 going out.
