Ovi has always been a one trick pony, albeit one with a shot goalies STILL havent figured out. Someone else said it best, he is a great SHOOTER, plenty of better goal scorers out there

You should analyze this playoff run vs other playoffs and/or total career. This is what people mean when they say he's playing a more complete game and, analysis aside, if you just watch the games you can see a difference.

Glad we got Malkin too but it would have been fun to see how Crosby and ovi could work together.

Made this comment while watching Game 3. It’s annoying as hell that players only get their due when the team wins. We dealt with this BS during the post-2011 doldrums when Sid and Geno were labled “unclutch” and “bad leaders” while Jonathan Toews was all of a sudden the best player in hockey because those Hawks teams were juggernauts. I feel like the only player in recent memory to truly get his due dispite playoff disappointments is Henrik Lundqvist.

Ovi has never not been great, and in his prime he has never not been a complete player. If anything, he’s losing his edge a bit and is less of a physical pain to play against than he was even two years ago. This narrative is boosh.

That said, go Vegas!

Haha that always grinded my gears when people woould talk of Toews as the best center, his intangible leadership was the excuse when he started to slow down, now what do they say?

It's quite unbelievable to think that every player knows where Ovechkin is going to shoot from but the (frank)er still scores from the same place so many times. He's the luckiest son of a female dog...........

I'm not sold on this. This just happens to be the first time he's advanced past the second round. His team's general success and his increasing point totals due to playing past the second round is making people see what they want to see. The real story here is how outrageously good a post season Carlson, Oshie, Kuz, and Holtby are having.

EDIT: And of course that they beat the Pens, because they were playing pretty (frank)ing well last season too (besides Carlson).

That expansion team beat a good Sharks team and an elite Winnipeg team to get to the Cup final. Not to mention the quality of opponents the Caps had to dispatch in the East. No asterisk here.

I loved the Dio era Sabbath.

I don't want the Caps winning the Cup 'cause I don't want Tom Wilson winning a cup. Scumbags like that deserve no glory.

- madmike71

Eff Dio-era Sabbath. Dio was much better without Sabbath and Sabbath was much better with Ozzy.

Ozzy all day, erry day. Dio is overrated by metal elitests.

The East teams were much stronger than the West. Caps definitely had a tougher road.

Ovechkin is the best shooter and goal scoring is largely based on shooting skills. So, he is the best in both.

If the Pens had of been able to find the net more, who knows what may have happened. Have to think at this point in time, Cooper is lying on the floor in the fetal position sucking his thumb.

I think it would be unfair to point out Fleury's stats or him being the reason Vegas fails. If anyone watched these games they'd see he kept Vegas in every game aside from last night which was a total team implosion. He's made not only timely, but mind-boggling saves.

Vegas just finally faced a team that was far better than anyone they've played this post-season.

I honestly think Sid and Ovie would not work well together, but if the Pens had the chance to select Ovie instead of Malkin, we'd probably be seeing Jordan Staal in a Pens sweater centering Ovie on the 2nd line. Who knows how else that team would have been constructed.

I'm taking Malkin in the draft 10 out of 10 times and that's not hindsight. I remember when the Pens drafted him I was glad because the Pens would have two #1 elite centers and that's so much harder to obtain than a #1 center/winger combo.

Rino in hindsight we wouldn't have drafted Staal to begin with. Probably we would end up with Backstrom or Toews instead. Staal was brought to be our 3rd line C of the future and for his defensive style. Since we wouldn't have a 2nd C, Backstrom or Toews would've been picked for sure.

career avg stats don't tell the story about ovie this year:

he is much more engaged than ever before: backcheck, forecheck, def/off...he is giving everything he got every shift; he is leading his team...

the "old" ovie liked to hang around the left circle on the pp to rack up goals and points; this ovie is all over the ice...

yes his team mates have figured out how to play as a team and holtby found his playoff mojo for once..

but counting out any team in the NHL down 3-1 is a big mistake; things can go then other way in a hurry

I posted that for the people who thought Murray and the defense were the problems. I agree, it was lack of scoring beyond Crosby, Guentzel, and Hornqvist.

Also, Washington is just destroying their opponents offensively while choking the life out of them defensively.
