Don't think so. You guys are rebuilding and are in no state to even crack the playoffs (no offense) and chase for the cup. But you still have Holland so...

However, hopefully Chia has given a try to see what's up. A guy like him on the Oilers does so much in bolstering offensive options, and it won't cost any assets.

The rumors of him landing in NYR are kind of sketchy as they have publically stated that they are entering a rebuild and want to focus on importing young talent and building on that. They made some big moves prior to the deadline as well focusing on that aspect. Perhaps Kovy could be a guide while being a force for them to, but rebuilding within one summer and killing it the next year and going for the cup? Possible, but highly unlikely.

As for the family stuff and gymnastics/football rumors, I mean yeah, I get it, but hockey players in general barely see their families during the hockey season. Pretty sure he can afford sending them to wherever THEY want to get the premium poop.

Gonna be interesting to follow up either way. My bet's on him landing in Vegas.

Well, you simply cannot sugarcoat it. And the sad thing is Holland STILL hasn't been fired. In fact, he received an extension for his efforts.
I feel pity for ye.

Wonder who the 8 teams (maybe more...) could be?

*NYR*, NYI, VGK, NJD, DAL, CAR, EDM (gonna be cheeky here), SJS? Maybe even TBL?

Damn, imagine him signing with the TBL? They have cap space to burn. Imagine the depth on that team....

- EdmHockeyMan

Edmonton should sign him...which means Calgary is going to do it....

It could be worse. I mean, the worst Holland has done was Janmark, Backman, and a 2nd for Erik Cole and signed Nielsen and Weiss for dumb contracts. Both pale to Chias fails.

Ek says your signing Enstrom. Holy (frank), imagine this be his once a year tumor that’s right. Klefbom gets traded for Abdelkader and is replaced by Toby.

When you’ve got the best player in the world/one of the most talented players ever to play, going into his 4th season with the club, u should be contending for Stanley fuking cups. Not concerned about even being competitive and thinking build through the draft so hopefully in a few years you can be among the better teams in the league

What a fuking debacle

He certainly elevated his play at the recent internationals but still not enough to carry the team. He is not Mike Bossy. Maybe the larger ice serves him better.
- Beatle_john

Well no poop. You should know that Nuge played a dozen or so games on McDavids wing towards the end of the regular season and looked fanastic, so not exclusive to the large ice surface in Europe, you Dolt.

Not at all offended but nice attempt at deflecting. I just don't agree with someone that seems to suggest that every writer has to make egregious and bold claims. I'd sooner contest those who try to levy impotent critiques of a new (but not really) writer in an attempt to push him towards more outlandish ideas. Put simply, I'd rather not have a site full of Cloutiers and Tanners.

Or not with the Panthers. Literally FLORIDA Panthers.
Seems like everyone forgets about them.

- EdmHockeyMan

He said he wants to win. The bolts are the only team In 1k mile radius of his home that can provide that. The panthers will never win.

Hes got a house in florida. If he signs with any team other than the bolts he's full of poop saying this isn't about money but winning.

He also said his family will play the biggest part in deciding. No Canadian cities will be in the running.
Tampa doesn't have room unless they clear space. They've got about 7-8 mill space and need to resign 4 Rfa's. Plus one more player.

My bets are NY area, Boston, Dallas, LA, Florida. SJ and Vegas small possibility. The rest long shots.

The estimates on CapFriendly are without the cap going up (still at 75m). Even if we look at just a 3m increase, that leaves them with about 11m to play with at the max. If we go by say the 7% increase that was speculated in the Habs thread a few days back, that's about a 5m increase, leaving them with 13m at the max to play with.

Their main focus will be signing JTM (around 4-5m?). Slater will probably get a show-me type of deal (Bridge contract). The other RFA's will probably get something close to their qualifying/original deals. They might resign Sustr, but he became a healthy scratch over quite a few games near the end of the season. Nonetheless, they do have some room to play with after all is said and done, even without clearing cap space via trades as long as the cap goes up.

Now, now, they have a good, young team that are capable of getting into the playoffs if they play some consistent hockey from start to finish. You may doubt their ability to go all the way, but as long as you get into the playoffs, you have a shot from what I've seen. Incorporating Kovy would only bolster that by giving them more offensive options up front.

Same case with them as well with regards to cap space. They have a few RFA's that will get something near their qualifying offers and along with anything from a 3-7m increase in cap space, it gives them some flexibility (anywhere from 12-16m in cap space when all is said and done). All in all, I wouldn't leave them off the table.

Thanks for telling me a bunch of poop I already knew idiot.

I never said it would not be possible as he could end up there hence my Florida prediction.

Ignoring the fact that Kovy seems to want a multi-year deal and Point and Kucherov's big paydays are just a year away, then sure. I highly HIGHLY doubt Tampa would put their future at risk like that, though. There'd have to be a major concession on Kovy's side to make it work.

If you already knew, as you say, why didn't you factor it into the possible cap space projections (10-11m instead of 7-8m, with the possibility of it being an even higher increase) and how that would affect everything?

Also, I saw the Florida (TBL) prediction, but I'm mainly arguing that I don't think it will require a trade to open up cap space as you stated due to what was mentioned above (who will be resigned [JTM as the main focal point], increase in cap space, etc).

Harsh much?
