As an aside: Clarkson had been having back issues since New Jersey. The Leafs presumably had people capable of doing a physical, or at least asking around, when they offered him seven years but didn’t think enough of it at the time. Whether they could’ve foreseen it spiralling into what it became is obviously a different question altogether, but that’s a pretty big oversight on a seven-year commitment.

I haven't watched much junior hockey outside of the WJC, but for what it's worth, I'd move down, maybe for the Isles two pick (10 & 11) or for another top10 pick and a later 1st rounder (Rags, Bhawks and Wings all have at least a couple of first rounders this year and are in the top10).

I like Zadina, but from what I saw he's not worlds above the other guys from the top10. So I believe getting two lottery tickets is better than one in that case. If we move down I like Kotkaniemi/Hughes/Dobson and outside the top10 I wouldn't mind Veleno.

In the second, tough for me to say, though the D's from Drummondville (Beaudin/Bernard) could be interesting in the 2nd/3rd round. Beaudin especially, he's very active offensively.

I know, that's not much info. I try not to recommend players I've never seen play.
