EK has the Isles giving up either one or both of their 1st rounds picks for a goalie. Maybe Schneider. I'm not giving up both picks for a goalie.

I dont see any top tier G being available for a 1st, I think the 2nd rd picks are worthy for a G
So if Ek is reporting it, then u know it isnt happening ...

It's nuts to give up two 1's for a goalie. This team needs to improve the dmen and the entire defensive structure and not just get a goalie.

Nelson, both 2nd picks + maybe another spec/or salaried player

to Buff

O'Reilly + Lehner

* I would even throw in 2019 1st if both sign extension w/team

O'Reilly has five years left on his deal and the Islanders can't afford to take on his $7.5M cap hit, unless Tavares walks.

If salary can be shed, O'Reilly might be worth a look

* cap will be going up plus increase more when new expansion team arrives

For the islanders its going to be tough to get a great #1 goalie with term. Isles have to sign Jt Lee Pulock and Barzal down the line.

The goaltender is THEEEEEEEE most important position on the team. Giving up both firsts is not ideal, BUT, the isles aren't in the position of strength being that they need the goaltender. The isles shoulda been in on Schneider when he was on the market in Vancouver. Another fail for our beloved Snow. If you're serious about winning, then it starts with an elite netminder, which the isles haven't had since Billy Smith (honorable mention to Osgood).

The cap is going to go up to somewhere between $78M and $82M, which is anywhere from a $3M-$7M increase.

The Islanders have 8 forwards, not including Tavares obviously, 4 defensemen, and 1 pretty-terrible goaltender under contract for next season. They still have to sign 10 more contracts to have a full 23-man roster.

I don't think the Sabres would trade O'Reilly for Nelson, two 2nd's, and some scraps by himself, let alone eat some of his salary AND include Lehner.

Isles need a goalie no question but they cannot use both #1's for a goalie especially when goalie will not fix all the issues. Even a top goalie will do little if the Isles continue to play D like they do.

It wasnt a fail bc Van wanted Horvat and thought he wouldnt be there at 15 compared to NJ at 9 (i think)

Staple threw Jimmy Howard's name around in that Q&A last week. I'll be disappointed if that's their answer going into next year. He's been pretty bad the last couple of seasons.

Getting a star in goal would be so huge. Don't get me wrong, the defensive structure is mostly at fault for last season's debacle, but watching Halak and Greiss get sniped every night and throw their head back in disgust got old. Need someone who really battles back there until the blue line is revamped.

Isles would check off a couple of boxes that the top-tier teams in the league do (assuming JT stays): great 1-2 punch up the middle and reliable goaltending, not to mention offensive depth.

It was a fail in the sense that your team was in need of a number 1, and a number 1 was available. You dont win every trade head to head........look how well the isles have done thus far with sub par goaltending

The isles need a number 1.....period. They have the picks, prospects and assets to aquire one. Im not going to argue what the trade should look like. One pick, two picks, a pick and a prospect, a pick and a player.......I dont care. Whatever it takes. Im not talking about only getting a goalie.......they need at least 2 top 4 dmen as well.
But, you build from the goalie out....

Failing in getting a #1 G yes, but not getting Schneider then wasnt on Garf, thats on VAN moving way up in draft to get their guy.

The epic fail is Hall for Hamonic and Garf offered others instead ...
