Hey Bingo - Leaf fan here

What would it realistically take to trade for R. Mckeown?

Hey look, I don't feel like I need to convince you. I believe that the player available at 7 is going to have a higher potential than NH, an already established NHL defenceman, who is I believe an RFA. If the Canucks had another deal on the table where they were trading say Tanev for a pick slightly lower in the 1st round plus an additional second, and they felt that they could get a player they like in the 10-20 spot, plus an additional pick, then maybe it's worth looking at. But why is Carolina shopping this player if he's a legit top 4 d-man? I'm just not interested in anything to do with trading futures for nows.

Great stuff Carol. Dipeitro and a 7th (or Juolevi) for Hanafin are both something I can live with.

Even just trading the 7th overall pick says "I think we are closer to competing for a cup then for 31st place" I don't believe that's true, stay the course, be patient, continue to build. They will likely get a player as good or better at 7 this year, who will help the team more in a few years when they are actually getting better.

I'm pretty sure it says "this 21 year old looks like the real deal, that's only a few years older than the guy we would be picking"

Thanks Carol

NO

no no no no no no no no no no no

Jim - DO NOT try and speed up your rebuild taking short cuts and filling age gaps. If Carolina is looking to move big H they must have a reason. Draft, develop. If you can move Beartschi + Hutton then by all means.

- 1970vintage

She stated the reasons in the article: his contract is up, he's asking for a lot and they have a lot of D in the pipeline. If Carolina picks 7th, I'd put my money on a forward such as Wahlstrom or Kokaniemi

I don't believe anything they say.

Neither do I. Just pointing out one of the many lumps of sh*t that fall out when one of them speaks.

Didn't he say at the end of the season "we're not trading anymore picks"?

I would think they are shopping him because of money. new owner probably doesn't want to pay the 5-6m he wants.

I think if it's for a trouba of Hanafin it makes sense if you don't think any of the D at 7 have that same potential.

Nope. Juolevi's stock has fallen hard since he was drafted. And Benning reached for him at #5 to begin with. He's not worth nearly what you think he is

Not only that, but the Canes are stocked with superior young talent on the back end. What they need are forward prospects

Obviously you aren't entertaining offers for Pettersson, so I'd say the 7th overall + one of: Gaudette, Demko, or Lind would get it done

It's steep, but look at the premium placed on top-four d-men these days. Adam freaking Larsson netted a potential Hart Trophy winner. And I realize that was Peter Chiarelli's work, but let's be honest.....if there's a GM in this league who's less competent than Chia, it's Benning

Talking about OJ or Hanifan. I mean Hanifin was taken 5th and is already passed by Werenski. Provorov is going to pass him this year. I wouldn't doubt it chabot passes him in a couple seasons too.

carolina doesn't need a dman. they need forwards.

even the the 7th only makes sense if whalstrom or tkackuk are still there.

- Tumbleweed

If OJ is not a guy they need we have prospects like Goldy, Lind I would be willing to part with for NH. I would even entertain a Dahlen for NH trade TBH. People here may not agree but I think NH could be a #1 and if not will be a #2. 32 pts mostly 5v5 last year. Give the kid pp1 time and that could go up a fair bit. His defense also is not terrible. Having a piss poor goalie like Darling makes small mistakes look like huge ones.

NH is "Futures", he's 21. As to him having less potential than Boquist, Dobson or Hughes... just don't see how that's true. They take longer to develop, he's on the right track.

Not following this line of reasoning.

I'll reserve judgement on OJ until he plays a season in the AHL.
