Canucks Army just dropped this 45 min ago. It's a good breakdown. I agree. If it were possible to get Hanifin for the 7th, it would all depend on who is available when JB's turn comes. Take Hanifin over Boqvist and Bochard.... they add Dobson to that group as well but I still think Dobson can potentially QB a PP so I don't like him on that list. I swap him out for Tkachuk.

So for me, if Hughes, Wahlstrom or Dobson is there... make the pick. Make the trade rather than take Boqvist, Bouchard or Tkachuk.

God, I hope this doesn't become the Summer of Hanifin.

I'd agree with this. Although I like Bouchard, based on what JB has said about wanting speed he won't be drafting him either way.

Bouchard, bottom 2 defender, PP QB.

Hanifin, top 3 defender, good 5 on 5 point producer and excellent transition player who can skate well.

I think Bouchard will be a 2nd pairing PP QB but I would obviously prefer Hanifin in a 1 to 1

(frank)ing Friedman.... he has come right out and talked about how active Canuck's fans are online compared to the rest of the NHL and has rode those waves a few times now. I feel he is feeding us lately but I still think he wouldn't make poop up... just serving it in a presentation that Canuck's fans hunger for.

He always makes it clear when his is guessing/speculating and doesn't irresponsibly paraphrase or deliberately change context. Respect. Still, I see what he's up to.

Observant. I've always wondered why he seems to have a canuck take when most MSM types ignore.

Strange Friedman knows this market so well yet 1040 couldn't figure it out. Pray on the weaknesses of your audience. Great way to stand out in a crowded market.

Thats exactly why Carolina is interested in trading him. He's younger and better then the other 3 D.

Some people (not you) have a difficulty of understanding that is he was that good he wouldn't be getting traded.

He might not be traded at all. Some think the owner is just shopping many of his players to get a read on what their current market value is, but he doesn't actually plan on moving more than 1 or 2 players

Teams always move on from 21yr old players who are Too Good when they're low leverage RFA's, they only have 3 other signed dmen for the upcoming season and 3 other dmen under team control after next season.

A 21 year old who's progressing. Only two points behind Edler you say? Looks like he's going to be better than Edler by a fair bit. Are you sure you are arguing against Hanifin?

- boonerbuck

lol I'm for and against. He is trending up but there is no guarantee he will be a solid 50 point Dman like OEL for eg.

If we could get him for 'just' the 7OA pick Benning would have to look at it...but on the other hand if he is being fleeced for sweetener we may need to stay away from that deal.

It's obvious that Bloated is Freidman's burner account.

Always best to do that at the draft when they're at their highest value

still the 7oa has me a bit concerned as well. it all really comes down to who they are targetting in that slot and that player's ceiling.

yes hanafin is a few years from entering his prime, but it reminds me a little of schneider being traded entering his prime for 9oa where horvat is looking great and the devils have been mediocre wasting schneiders best years

So according to Eklund the price for Hannifin would be Kapanen.

If that was the price 30 other teams would have paid it.

They could sign Grabner for like 2.5mil and hold onto Hanifin if that's all they wanted

People have a difference of opinion. That's fine as well. If the herd says one thing you better have something to bring back to the herd so they see otherwise.

The gamble in this really is what you get picking 7. You know in Hanifin you have a top 4 that fits a fast possession/transition style game with upside still.

You can get everything Hanifin offers in Dobson I think without risk. It's the PP ability that makes it more sense to pick Dobson over the trade. Or else why wait to develop what you could just grab in Hanifin who is Boeser's age only. Neither player to me seems like they have any kind of elite talents like Hughes skating and insane puck possession magic or Boqvist' shot. Could Hughes turn out like Yannek Weber(that's who Vantel was trying to remember)? Small speedy can score but a crappy player. Maybe. Could Boqvist show he has elite skill but continue with getting concussed and be useless? Maybe... Could Bouchard fail to play the same top minutes in the NHL because he can't keep up with other teams top lines? Probably lol...

Sometimes the gamble isnt worth it. I gamble on Hughes way before Boqvist. Dobson checks every box we could possibly check at 7 even with the trade. Speed, Size, 5 on 5 offence, PP producer, excellent defending, great transition, joins the rush.

The thing is, we need more than Hanifin anyways, and we'd have to get rid of MDZ and Hutton to make room for him and OJ and we'd have to keep Tanev to keep the D respectable at least for this year and next while OJ and Hanifin adjust. Personally, I'd love to trade OJ straight up for Hanifin (not that Carolina would even consider it) and use the 7OA to take Dobson.

If it were me, I'd love to trade Tanev, Hutton, Gudbranson, MDZ for whatever picks we can get and sign veterans on 1-2 year cheap deals while we stock up on high risk/high reward D-men in the draft and let them develop. I'm fine with sucking 2 years until the new D-core is able to gel.
