Unless you’re looking at him purely as a winger, then why would Florida be looking at bringing in 6m on the books when they have 3 current top 6 players, off memory, capable of playing center (Barkov, Trocheck, Huberdeau)? The play here doesn’t add up, in my opinion and it doesn’t make the Oilers any more of a player right now, it only sets them back farther.

Nuge did impress, especially after he was moved to McDavid’s wing. But I’d still be tempted to move him for Pacioretty (had Pacioretty more term on his current contract). The move would arguably be lateral performance wise, but would still come with significant cap savings.

At the end of the day it comes down to chemistry. The same (saying this very loosely) “logic” was implied when we traded Eberle for Strome, and look what we got. Patches is obviously a much better player, but sometimes that doesn’t mean they’ll mesh with others around them/the system. Nuge, in my opinion would have to be dealt in a package for a top 2 D if they hope to justify that trade.
