Well Lucic isnt a coon so I have no idea what youre talking about. But we have enough size, truculence and toughness. We need real speed and scoring, neither of which he provides enough of, and certainly not for what it would cost us. Be better.
- Larsson_fan

Was stating that if you were comparing Simmonds to Lucic as "enough Wayne Simmonds types", I would have given ya roundhouse kick since Simmonds is superior in about every single way.

Furthermore, "enough Wayne Simmond types" = Black... Darnell Nurse... you see where I'm going here with #2.

The thing is, we don't know what chia is thinking in that head of his. Does he still have the motive of making size a priority for him? Does he want to incorporate speed with size? If so, even if posters here wouldn't want Simmonds, Chia might.

Regardless, still think a guy like Nyquist and a F/A signing would go a very long way with upgrading this team's offense in terms of speed and depth. Defensively, unless a deal for an upgrade comes up or a top 4 RHD specialist can be had for cheap without trading away a defender, of which I highly doubt to be the case, I say we keep the same corps.

I would look at Neal for 2-3 years if it were no more than 5 million, but he’ll get better offers.
- Larsson_fan

This will most likely be the case.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him sign 6m for 4-5 years without breaking a sweat.

The first 2 paragraphs are a mess and he is only marginally better than Lucic offensively, and not as tough.

Yeah, they are a bit messy. My bad.

Simmonds is a great pk'r, faster, has a higher hockey IQ, and better defensively. Plus like you mentioned, still better than Lucic offensively.

Either way, his next contract will be expensive as hell. The biggest con with regards to any team acquiring him IMO.

Kane just signed a 7x7 and Simmonds is arguably the better player. He’ll get something similar and we simply can’t afford him.
- Wildschwein

True, however, Kane signed that contract at the age of 26. Simmonds will most likely be signing his next deal at 30 years old. Just something to consider.

Yeah, it means Simmonds 7x7 deal is gonna be even more atrocious because he signed at 30.

I zero faith that not a single NHL GM is gonna offer him such a deal.

I think he is exactly what you guys need. But I think you would want to sign him for longer than 7 years.

Lets do it Chia!!!

Yep if this becomes the case. However, honestly, I don't think any team will sign him for that long of a term. Maybe 5 years max.

Two ways to take this into meaning:

1)
We have a player who puts up 50+ points consistently (46 while playing through injuries), isn't a liability, a fantastic pk'er, has a high hockey IQ, skates relatively quickly for a player of his size, tough as nails, and gives it his all (is noted for being the "heart and soul" of the team)? Well, please enlighten me!

And if you say Lucic.....

2) You racist mothafuka.

No, see my qualms are with spending significant assets acquiring a guy near or on the downswing of his career who has posted ~41% GF at 5-on-5 the past two years (52% three years ago), is a solid PKer but lacks track record (only been a regular PKer for 2 years) and skates pretty average when what we need is a speedy partner for Draisaitl.

I'm not saying he's doesn't bring valuable skills; I'm saying they're not the skills we should commit significant assets and cap space to when we've already got Lucic dragging the team down.

I see where you're getting at.

All in all, still think Nyquist is one hell of an option to consider with regards to finding a speedy partner for LD.
That or maybe NYI will consider taking back Strome for Eberle.

Let us make it a location bet. I win and you must use a location of my choosing and vice versa. The winner will be the one of us who comes closest to predicting Simmonds next deal.

Work for you?

Hey whatever happened to that Defender from Detroits system you had a boner about a couple summers ago. You were pretty convinced he was gonna be an amazing player. What was hs name again?

Where would MPS fit anyway? At this point I think Kassian brings more to the table. Probably even Cagguila, tho they both kinda suck.
