I am not saying trade him now. But Janko looks like he could end up being a good 3C which is where Backland will eventually end up.
Calgary needs another scoring line. Tkachuk is a start and maybe we could salvage Bennett as a RW, hell even try Tkachuk on RW.
But another C that drives play would do wonders for this team.
I think before Bennett gets written off you gotta give him a year playing with some good players.
The original pla was to have Bennett playing center. Did not happen so that kinda left a hole that I am not sure Janko can fill.
If Bennett had panned out as we had hoped do you think Calgary re-signs Backs? - DuranDuran
IMO in 3 years time janko >Bennett as a Center ....he is better suited to be a Center and has produced pretty decent given his line mates
If Bennett had planned out then they might have resigned backs but Bennett would have eaten up his ice time and bsvks woukdbt have put up the numbers he did ...everyone is so quick to look to the future but backs is a good Center now ...

No.
I hope they go after Wilson and then get Coyle. A 3rd line of Bennett/Ferland Coyle Wilson would be pretty fun to watch. - DuranDuran
Yeah... but Ryan has been BP's guy since they were both in the WHL a decade ago. |

ras is just a prospect at this point. same as kap.
what do you get for brodie at this point? package of futures or a 1 for 1ish type deal? - Tumbleweed
Yeah they are both prospects ....but one is a winger and one is a D man ....huge difference there
Honestly I don’t even know what Brodie is worth ...Two years ago we was looking like a legit top pairing D but he was playing with gio then ...last two years he has had multiple as partners and looked average to me ....but then you see what Larsson and Hamonic can fetch ...D are way too overpriced in the trade market
I’d be happy with a top 6 right winger to be honest |

I’d be all over that deal in a heartbeat ...not sure about others in here as simmonds will be 30
With Kessel it all depends on what is going back the other way ....I don’t really want to give up what it might take to get Phil |

I don’t see Center as our weakness or need ....we need RW who can score ...and janko playing with Brouwer will hurt him not help
And Brodie can get you a top 6 RW ...D are overvalued compared to wingers
IMO I am done with the 3M line ...time to let tkachuk play on a different line ...let backs and frolik play with someone else as a shutdown line
I honestly liked seeing tkachuk play with Bennett and janko ...just try something different that the same old - Redmile247
Gotta disagree. Janko has lots of potential but next year will be his sophomore year which usually bites many good prospects. It would be a risk to expect him to step in & become that possession/faceoff top 6 offensive centre this team desperately needs.
Backlund & Frolik would be one of your better defensively responsible shut down 3rd lines in the league with the ability to chip in offense. Backlund/Frolik should be good for 35-45 points. Duran is right, in 2-3 years, Janko should be pushing Backlund out of a job. Also, Janko is more than capable of moving up the lineup in case of injury. |

Peters is probably the last coach Treliving is going to get. He'll buy him a couple years, and then they're both done barring a miracle. |

Ok........don’t know where to start
1) Backlund isn’t going anywhere. He is one of the top 2 way forwards in the league and ranked what 4th in selke voting last year? Played with a banged up frolik this year and was still among the top 10 players league wide, for take aways, defensive zone starts and huge possession numbers. he is a guy who has earned his contract and he’s the type of player teams don’t ever trade.
2) Brodie is still a top defenceman. He is playing on his off wing and has had multiple partners the last few year which is tough to gain chemistry. Hamilton struggled his first year and everyone wanted to trade him, now look at him. Brodie and hammonic will bounce back but do not think for a second Brodie is not a top defenceman. If he was to be traded we could expect a decent top 6 forward but if your expecting a Taylor hall forget it. Yes defence are worth more in this league GM’s (outside of Chiarelli) will never offer a guy like that unless a 50+ defence is coming back. Brodie is a 30-40pt guy.
3) I hope the flames stay a LONG LONG LONG way away from the UFA market as Teams rarely come up a winner. The winners are always the players holding their new ridiculous contracts. Work up the bottom 6 (cheaper option) at minimum see what your defensive depth riches look like in trades with other teams and don’t sacrifice futures for bandaids |

I really think Toronto is going to call about Hamonic, they really wanted him last season but the Islanders wanted no money back. I am wondering though, would they even trade him given the price they ended up paying? |
