I get the Ladd, Casey, and Cal anger.. but why would you hate Mayfield and Pelech? Cost very little, are very young, and if Lou gets a real coach are either going to play well or be scratched/demoted.
- niteislander

Not sure "very" young applies. Mayfield is 25 and Pelech is 23. Pelech probably tops out as a reasonable bottom-pairing defenseman. Mayfield is hot garbage that is probably based served playing in the AHL, ideally for another organization.

To me, this is a prime example of when fans want to believe their own narrative b/c it fits their viewpoint and hope.

If you just found out your new boss likes their employees to be clean shaven and has certain standards He wants met.. what would you do? If you would like to keep your Job you would shave and throw on a suit and tie for the sit down. Not sure why anyone would "hope" for that.. but it seems pretty obvious.

I think Mayfield will end up being a decent bottom pairing d-man with right coach. If he is given the right system he will succeed. Call it a bet... I hope I am right.

Barzal, Bouv, Toews, Aho, 2 very good goalie prospects, and Bellows. It's not a terrible pool compared to other teams in Metro.
- niteislander

Of course they have a couple of good ones but lets be honest after missing the playoffs in what 8 out of the last 12 years? They sure missed out on a lot of good players. Go back and read staple's articles on their drafts over the years and see for yourself

If he is our GM he will be doing things GM's do yes. Lou will then approve said trades or whatever it is but yes. Are you one of the people that believe if Snow is still our GM he's going to be locked in a closet somewhere?
- Cptmjl

I don’t believe he’s gonna be in a closet but much like a kid and his parents, when the kid says something stupid or aggregious the parent (Lou) is there to say absolutely not, we’re doing it this way.

Also don’t forget the soundtigers with said prospects and 12 years of drafting haven’t advanced in 15 years. THATS horrific

It's a joke. Anybody who says Snow has done a good job should have his facking examined. There is a reason they are considered a joke around the NHL

I hear u.. but I like to be the glass half full guy. They also drafted a 40 goal scorer in the 5th round. they traded Reinhardt for Barzal. Traded up to grab bouv, deHaan, Ho Sang.. etc.

Every team has some misses but I don't think our drafts have been much better or worse than most other teams. Rose color glasses for sure.. but I like our core. We also traded down twice for Bailey when everyone wanted us to take Filatov and then Luke Schenn. Picked up Hamonic in the move down picks... etc. IF we kept our last pick in that draft (Jared Spurgeon) it would have been a very good one... still not sure how we didn't sign him.

good point.. although most of the prospects I mentioned were on team, hurt last year, or still in juniors.

If nothing else turning on the worlds and seeing 2 of our young kids on Canada and Lee on USA has to put a smile on Isles' fans face.. no?

my guess is we won't miss playoffs anymore b/c we will have a real NHL caliber coach.

Come on 7. Cal getting a haircut and shave had nothing to do with Lou.
- ses111

No, just bc he said in interview " just to be safe" was just a line used, but Cal was at Shinnicock last monday (may 21st) playing golf n was already shaved, he tends to be clean-cut after the season ... Its just coindence bc of Lou's rule

Term is far to long no matter what their cost and they suck and shouldn't have roster spots especially in the top 4. They're both 6/7 defenseman you don't sign those for 5 years.

Between 2011-2015, Islander draft selections played the fewest NHL games in the entire league.

Not my analysis (this was from an Athletic article written by James Gordon) and there were reasons he chose to use that time-frame, but that's pretty atrocious. This all despite having the 6th-highest average pick position.

No we'll have Sorokin and Soderstrom will be his back up who are both legit NHL caliber starters of course. Then Bellows will be on the first line with Kolvachuck and Tavares after Lou signs him. Then Toews is going to be on our first pairing when that patch he has in his shoulder heals. Lou is going to be head coach, GM, and POH don't believe any titles attached to anyone its all for show that 75 year old will be working 17 jobs simultaneously. We're all set

There's no doubt he's hit some absolutely massive home runs in the draft. But all his other "at-bats" have been fouling out on a two-strike bunt
