Its not just a hockey expert, but a guy who spent twelve years as owner, vice-president, and general manager of the London Knights (Tavares old team). The drafting on the island has been sub par, with the exceptions of cant miss Tavares, and getting lucky with Barzal. They need deeper roots in juniors to stop with these wasted picks of Reinhardt, Strome, Dal Colle...

I would gladly trust Hunter or Conte to run the draft.

Im sure from his time in Toronto, Lou has a pretty good idea on who's who and whats what. However, im gonna go out on a limb and say the isles picks this year are going to be used in trade.

The only problem is Hunter cannot be hired until after the draft. I mentioned in the past I would not mind trading one of the 1's and one of the 2's. Isles might end up moving both 1's especially if they think JT re-signs.

Would be a hell of a trade to include both 1st's or highly impressive if they found two trades worthy of throwing first round picks into.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them use one, but two seems unlikely/far-fetched.

At the end of the day, like it or not, the pipeline has to stay stocked with talent. Especially with a potential massive Tavares deal and having to pony up to pay Barzal in two years. Gonna need talent on ELC's to fill out the roster. And with missing out on last year's first round, they kinda need to make a selection in this one.

I think they are going to sign JT, and trade both picks to start aquiring whats needed. I also think you're gonna see some signings via free agency

Yeah you can't win anything without the Dal Colle's ,Ho-Sangs and Pelech's "stocking" up that pipeline

Well the idea would be to not draft garbage moving forward.

I dont disagree about the prospect pool, but i also think the major problem of this team has been lack of goaltending, and a top pair on D. Maybe only one of the picks gets moved, and im fine with that, as long as it addresses the needs. There are always gems in the later rounds (or late first round) too. This is where the isles need to be finding hidden talent. Not drafting Kabanovs, or Petrovs, or Ho Sangs. Find a solid second pair dman, or a third line winger who can play special teams. Stop drafting more Corey Trivinos

My vote would be to keep one of the 1st round picks but I do not get a vote.

I'd like to see them try and lift Josh Leivo out of Toronto, a guy I'm sure Lou is very familiar with.

He's been shafted by that organization, getting a very small amount of playing time over the years, but has been productive in a small sample size. There was an Athletic article written about him (in regards to EDM trying to acquire him) about all of that this morning that was interesting. In extremely-limited playing time he has some good underlying numbers and could be a good option to play on the third line in place of Nelson. Good size, good speed, decent scoring numbers.

I still would love to see them make a move for JG Pageau to center that line. Schaller would be a really good UFA signing if he can't find another deal in BOS. Bozak wouldn't be bad either and the Lou-connection is obviously there, but I'm not so sure Bozak would be all that cheap.

I think even Garth got a shave? Funny thing for him to do if he were still in charge.

- ses111

Garth's shave had nothing to do with Lou coming on board he just happened to shave right before if you want to believe the horseshat thrown around here.

yes. its totally not believable at all that he shaved during the full month after the press conference when everyone was ripping on him looking sloppy, but TOTALLY believable that he would shave immediately for Lou.

All due respect B.D, when has Garth cared what others said before? If this was the case Cappy would have been fired years earlier. Garth shaving was all Lou.

To me, this is a prime example of when fans want to believe their own narrative b/c it fits their viewpoint and hope.

Is your contention that Garth will be overseeing the roster next year etc? Making trades or picks or signings ?
- kindlyrick

If he is our GM he will be doing things GM's do yes. Lou will then approve said trades or whatever it is but yes. Are you one of the people that believe if Snow is still our GM he's going to be locked in a closet somewhere?

He could jump off the Meadowbrook bridge with some cement shoes and make sure he ties cizikas, Ladd, Mayfield, and Pelech to his body. That would be awesome.
- Cptmjl

I get the Ladd, Casey, and Cal anger.. but why would you hate Mayfield and Pelech? Cost very little, are very young, and if Lou gets a real coach are either going to play well or be scratched/demoted.

Barzal, Bouv, Toews, Aho, 2 very good goalie prospects, and Bellows. It's not a terrible pool compared to other teams in Metro.

Just a little pleasant reminder to all and our new/old/new blogger. This is Lou, and he does not tip his hand, and he fires people who speak out of turn about possible moves. So it will all be conjecture , hope, and opinions, anyone who has a "source" from Lou, is simply full of it. You find out when it happens.
