Does anyone here want kovelchuk? Hes been mentioned as a possibility with the isles because of lou but hes 35. He still has a world class shot and barzal could feed him all day but not sure on him. Would move bailey to the third line where he is better suited so they would have more depth I suppose

Bailey on the third line would have 20 points. Leave him with JT or trade him.

Flagged on accident, hes decent defensively and kovy replaces some of his offence and would shoot it. Even with lou I think bailey stays. Maybe jvr

If Lou does not think the Isles need a rebuild then Kovy makes sense. Going to be very interesting to see how this team takes shape.

Yea Nelson does nothing if he isnt in a 5 game streak, prince quine not worth words, cluttersucks and I like Casey. Johnston was more productive than most of them and that's saying a lot

If JT signs I'm fine with keeping Bailey. However, I don't want a 5 shmil 3rd liner. Coming off last season Bailey's contract probably doesn't look to bad. I'd rather trade him.

EDIT:

Another 5 shmil 3rd liner.

I think Bailey stays on the 1st line. Could see Nelson being traded and like somebody said you could see Beau as 3rd line center and Kovy takes his spot on Barzal line even though I like Beau on that line

It all depends on what JT decides to do. Its impossible to even guess the best moves until then.

I still don't think Nelson as a RFA has a big return.

Yea that line is fast but beau could be a very good 3rd line center too. Sign kovy to a two year deal that gets us to bellows

Apparently Bellows can play center too, it COULD be a decent experiment.

I agree but if you package him with a 1st I think they could get a good return IMO

Yeah, I had this discussion with 7 a few days ago. Nelson does have value in a package deal.

Thanks, man! Great to see some of the old crew. You and the rest of the fellas don't be strangers.

I'll have to talk to him and put something together. He lives in NJ now, got married, and has a one-year-old girl.

BD- I dont recall us ever engaging on this board but let me be the latest to welcome you (back) and to tell you to go blow it out your ass!

Seriously tho, I’ve been away from posting because I was exhausted of the rinse & repeat approach of Garth and the results it garnered.

Lou can keep him and let him do the grunt work....or reassign him to Head of Parking when Belmont opens...or let him set tee times for jt/Bails/clutter... or as someone suggested, make him Head Scout for Eastern Russia...whatever itis, as long as Garth isnt the end-all decision maker, it’s the change this team needed.

It will be great to have discussions about actual trades of substance, a more competitive team, how much the Rangers suck and other intelligent hockey topics.

Which will be a relief from the kool-aid slurping holdouts who still believed Garth & Crappy would have finally figured it out in Year 18/19 of the rebuild. 👍

Read somewhere today that Bellows may be good enuf to crack roster next year- if there’s room.

I havent seen enuf of him, minus highlights, but the kids a natural goal scorer.

Yes. As a UFA that only costs dollars? Yes. The isles need talent and depth to compete. Kovalchuk would be a great pick up.

I’d love to wipe clean the entire bottom six and start over, maybe with the notable exception of cizikas. The rest of the bottom 6 are pure garbage.

When all is said and done the isles under Lou are going to address a few needs. A top notch goaltender and a top pair dman (or two). In order to acquire those we will most likely say goodbye to Nelson and maybe Lee. Those are a fair amount of goals leaving, so i believe Lou will be signing Kovulchuk and trading for a JVR type player. Goals get you in the playoffs. Garth never understood the idea that if you let someone go, you gotta replace them (see Mark Streit, Hamonic)

He’s legit, but unfortunately, as has been that case for the better part of a decade, the isles continued drafting centers when they were already set down the middle.
First it was Bailey and then JT.....then enter Strome and the isles thought they had their top 3 centers. Now you look at all the other centers they drafted and it’s comical. Half the wingers are centers so now where do you put bellows who’s a Lw?
To me, if you are satisfied at the center position and the next best player available at the draft is a center, you trade the pick or said center for an area of weakness. The goaltending and defense have been way below average for the past 12 years.

Perhaps if Snow wasn’t drafting talented problem child’s, or Russians signed in the KHL those 4 picks could have been bottom 6 players. The bottom 6 is easily attainable via UFA and or trades. It’s only Snow who trades a 5th overall pick for a bottom 6, or a revolving door of defensemen who are nowhere to be seen. (See Czurzman, Donovan, Ness.....and I’ll even throw in Sebastion Colberg because the Vanek debacle still pisses me off)
