You also have a staff that plays washed up veterans instead of first round picks.

2007 no picks till 3rd round,

2008 and 2009 were great drafts for Isles.. especially when compared to other teams.

2010- Nino was an oK pick...handled horrifically. Brock Nelson has 100 goals in 400 games..

2011- Strome was not the right pick
but we got Eberle for him. I like Mayfield.. we'll see if I am wrong.

2012 was an awful draft.. thankfully we traded Reinhart for Barzal.

2013 u have Pulock who with a real coach will be best d-man on this team. rest was a zero..including quine.
2014- Dal Colle was a bust... Ho Sang we will see.. same with Sorokin and Soderstrom. Toews was a very good pick in 4th round.

2015 - Barzal, Bouv, Vand sompel, Wotherspoon... very good draft.

2016- Bellows certainly looks like a great pick.. we will see.

How does this all equal good drafting? Missing on top 5 players and hitting on mediocre bottom 6 forwards is not good drafting.

because u just happened to start the chart in their worst year.. do it from 2008 and they are leading that dumb chart.
- niteislander

Your entire point yesterday was that you were a glass-half-full guy and that Garth was good at drafting. In a 5 year sample he drafted prospects that have, collectively, played the literal fewest games in the league. It's not an end-all, be-all statistic...but it's a pretty good benchmark for the kind of job Snow has done drafting.

You can't just point out the negative and say.. "see I told ya so...." bold Anders LEE in the 7th round.. was that a bad pick too? He scored more last year than all but 6 players in the league. Was that a sht pick too?

Barzal had 85 points his rookie year.. was that a shtty draft pick?

Bailey still a bad pick.. most were furious we didn't take Filatov and Schenn.

You want to hate the isles draft.. go ahead. I disagree with u.

If Anders Lee, Barzal, Bouv, Bailey are bottom 6 players you would be right... They aren't and u are wrong.

First off Lee was picked in the 6th round. You're referring to Hamonic we got a couple years out of him. Yeah the Barzal draft was good thank christ sweeney is an absolute morom and snow pounced. Good on him for that. But for barzal theres reinhart, strome, dal cole. He has missed more often than not on top 5 picks(actually all besides tavares haha). Bailey will be a regrettable contract in a couple years but thats just my opinion and comoletely debateable 1.5 decent seasons doesn't make him a great pick to me. This doesn't make Snow a great drafter. In fact I think that makes him pretty bad if you want to disagree that's fine.

Yea hes had way more misses on first round picks than hes had hits on 6th rounders. It's hard to miss that many times in the first round so I'm going with he sucks

Yeah, that about sums it up. Also, it's not just first round misses. It's top 5 overall misses. Those are the guys you hope will be the difference makers on a team, maybe even elite players. Outside of JT, Nino was the only decent top 5 pick. Strome is subpar, and MDC and Reinhart are proving to be complete busts.

This is not compensated for by having occasional success in the later rounds. Especially glaring is the inability to draft good goalies and d-men. Hamonic was an exception, but now even his game has fallen off....

Edit: Pulock showed promise last season, but the jury is still out on the others, and there have been quite a few who will never play more than a couple of NHL games.

5-year window draft look: good

Fact that it is so close to now totally muddles it. Prospects take different times, and we also know Isles have a player development problem. So if we are judging drafts... it's no good. Need a snapshot like 2008-2012.

Bottom line is the drafts were under Snow’s watch.
The personnel hired were hired by Snow. Bottom line is the 12 years under Snow as a snap shot Sucked! It hasn’t produced a consistent winning product on the ice and the team is a laughing stock of the League.
As far as hitting bottom round draft choices who make it happens to every GM/staff.

There’s a reason L and M said enough is enough and Lou L was hired. Yes I said L and M because Malkin reaching out to Lou without L knowledge is just rumor.

Just makes me crazy. For 12 years this has been a rollercoaster ride of an occasional high and just too many lows.
In any language if you truly look at results and the teams preception in the media and around league the league it all points to Snow failing at what he was paid to to. In every aspect.

Makes total sense

Now Snow and some others have him to blame for the 12 years of misery
