Barzal and Eberle do have good chemistry, but Eberle is approaching free agency in a year and trading for Kessel would not only be getting a player with term at a reasonable rate, but also getting a significantly more talented player. Kessel is awesome. Eberle's a good player, but not even close to the level that Kessel plays at.

Moot point though because the Islander and Penguins making a big time trade is only marginally less insane of a thought than the Islanders and Rangers making a big trade.

Can't rule it out. Rangers and Devils made a trade recently.

Yeah, a depth move.

It's not impossible, but I'm comfortable enough calling it an almost-definite impossibility. If the Rangers and Devils completed a trade for Ryan McDonagh, then yeah...that would be comparable to Kessel being traded to the Islanders.

Between 2011-2015, Islander draft selections played the fewest NHL games in the entire league.

Not my analysis (this was from an Athletic article written by James Gordon) and there were reasons he chose to use that time-frame, but that's pretty atrocious. This all despite having the 6th-highest average pick position.

- eichiefs9

While you are right on the 2011-2013 picks the 2015 picks are b/c they did the right thing finally by letting Barzal and Bouv develop in Juniors and didn't rush them.

In 2008 we had about 13 picks that all played NHL games. You think that Ness, Donovan, Poulin, and Ulstrom all playing around 50 games is a great stat?

Look at ANY teams draft history. there are hits and misses... Garth and crew have done some things very poorly. I don't think drafting is in that category.

Well yeah, that analysis did look at every teams draft history. And in those years, the Islanders were dead-last in terms of games played. The years looked at were the same for everyone.

The Ducks had four out of five draft picks from the 2014 draft play NHL games. Three of them have played 100+ games, that's meaningful time.

For comparison, the Islanders have had two guys (out of 7!) play NHL games. Josh Ho Sang at 43gp and Michael Dal Colle at....4gp.

You also have a staff that plays washed up veterans instead of first round picks.

2007 no picks till 3rd round,

2008 and 2009 were great drafts for Isles.. especially when compared to other teams.

2010- Nino was an oK pick...handled horrifically. Brock Nelson has 100 goals in 400 games..

2011- Strome was not the right pick but we got Eberle for him. I like Mayfield.. we'll see if I am wrong.

2012 was an awful draft.. thankfully we traded Reinhart for Barzal.

2013 u have Pulock who with a real coach will be best d-man on this team. rest was a zero..including quine.
2014- Dal Colle was a bust... Ho Sang we will see.. same with Sorokin and Soderstrom. Toews was a very good pick in 4th round.

2015 - Barzal, Bouv, Vand sompel, Wotherspoon... very good draft.

2016- Bellows certainly looks like a great pick.. we will see.
