So Kessel, Hunwick and a pick or two for Domi

Just ignore the fact that it is only a 20 man roster

Sheary, Hunwick, a 1st and a 2nd.
- MattStrat

Don't see AZ moving Domi for a package like that without the 1st being a 2018 pick.

Nah.

Kessel + Letang for OEL, Domi and a 1st

- Rinosaur

Swap the 1st around and it isn't totally laughable.

Would need to know OEL and Domi's next contract first

I think the Kessel/Domi is very mismatched in AZ's favor and Letang/OEL is only a little mismatched in Pens' favor. OEL is clearly the better dman right now, but when you consider the price they'd get Letang for vs. what it will cost the Pens moving on, I think AZ would still need to sweeten the pot.

Swap at the 1st and throw in a 2nd from AZ and I think it's fair.

I prefer OEL to Letang. Maybe just make the pick conditional based on OEL re-signing with PIT.

Well Domi is an RFA so that would be up to GMJR and OEL is available to sign a new deal July 1 so would also be up to GMJR.

Thinking more out loud... this is probably the list of most likely to be traded...

Sheary, Hunwick, Hagelin, Sheahan, Rust, Sprong, Jarry, Kuhnhackl, Picks

Sprong, Jarry, Sheary are probably the most interesting to AZ.

I definitely prefer OEL to Letang, but yeah, I think that would be fair. By the time OEL is a UFA, he's probably going to make in the $9Mish range, if not more.

Yeah but it's fair to say OEL is going to be in the $9-10M range. So you have to weigh Letang at $7.25M vs OEL at $10M. Not saying that's inherently bad...OEL is younger and less risky health wise but $3M is an imporant difference for a team thats up against the cap every year. Just something to consider.

Swapping Kessel's 92 points with 45 points would be a major downgrade. Better be sure Domi will reach his potential and/or you can afford a FA player that can score.

I've seen this mentioned on here multiple times and I still think it's the correct way to address the Wilson's (and formerly Cooke's) of the NHL. Hit's that are illegal AND either do or substantially could cause injury should require a suspension, you can use the point system mentioned a few pages back, but the team should lose a spot on the bench for however long that player is out.

I'm sure there would be a lot of whining from the NHLPA about the effect on the players forced to play more minutes but at the same rate it would likely stop this Wilson-style crap within months. You'd never see a guy like Wilson playing for Washington if they knew he could lay a moronic "clean hit" and get suspended and now they're down a guy on the bench for X games...this would work and would actually make a difference. I for one watch hockey to see the skill involved, yes hitting is a part of the game, but not what Wilson does. He hunts, he doesn't hit in the flow of the game.

Possibly yes but I don't think it is too big of a deal considering you are getting a younger and probably better player.

A couple things to note here:

Kessel had a career high 92 points that he is likely to not reach again.

Domi had an unlucky 17-18 season shooting percentage wise.

In 16-17 Domi had a 5v5 p60 of 2.03 while Kessel was at 2.01

It isn't some drastic downgrade like some think.

Also you would be getting a player almost 8 years younger than Kessel.

Some fair points on the big picture. Are we acquiring Domi as a wing or a center? Which is he better at? (I haven't watched enough Arizona hockey to know this)

Also, as has been discussed the past few days with a potential Kessel trade... can Domi carry his own line? What right handed option will we have on the powerplay...Sprong?
