Any chance, you think, that Alexeyev makes it to 32? Or just not impressed?

I saw another mock where they had us taking him (earlier this year) and really liked the write up on him. For never seeing him actually play hockey, the idea sounded exciting. Now he's going in that 20-25 range...

I like him as a prospect and I highly doubt he makes it to round 2 (aka late, mid, early, 1st overall round 1)

I am not too sure I take him at pick 32, but this team has terrible defensive depth so I'd probably pick him over every other defender available at 32. He's a safe pick, but he has injury problems. I feel like he's Nikita Zadorov, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Maybe a bit less aggressive and a bit more offensively inclined.

There's always a guy or two, projected to go in the teens, that falls out of Rd 1. That's why it's great to have that first 2nd rd

Yeah I'm really excited about that pick too. Dahlin will be fantastic, but we could set up nicely if we can get a solid top4 or top9 out of that pick.

Well, based on last year, you are right...he steered the ship nicely...only goof he made was caving to his OC to start Peterman
- IonSabres

That's what he gets for hiring a dinosaur. Then again, it's widely reported Dennison wasn't his first choice. Oh well. We got our guy and it sounds like the players really like/respect him.

Yeah I want defensive depth for once. If we take Dahlin and get an NHL defender out of 32, I think we're close. Borgen I'm still hopeful can be an NHL guy. Good take and thanks, I didn't know about the injuries. Guess they gloss over that stuff in these descriptions.

If they weren't complete wieners to the GR guys, they probably could have gotten work there
- jcragcrumple

No they wouldn't. They're both curmudgeon dinosaurs. To be totally fair, some of their work was really well done. But their overall attitude just stinks. Jerry and Bucky are very good writers. I'm not the guy that laughs at someone for losing their jobs. It's awful and it's sad. But their writing reflects an age that is long past. They have a solid following for the old timers and the hard liner pessimistics. Curious to see where they land next.

I hope Vogl gets a job with the Athletic when they come to Buffalo. My brother in law is good friends with him, he's a great guy. I wish he was able to write columns instead of Harringtonosaurus, his opinions are way more modern and fresh.

If there were top line wingers available there I would agree, but that's what we need. We have a lot of middle/bottom6 wingers, which is probably what you're getting at 32. We need better, so I think trade/FA are better avenues to solve that problem.

And I don't think there's any package the Sabres could offer for a top 3 pick. RoR starts the convo, but he certainly doesn't get you that return. Trading him, McCabe, Nylander, 32 and more is probably closer to what it would take. I think we're better off keeping ahold of what we have for now and reevaluating mid or end of this season.

Yeah you've gotta go to a few sites to really get the whole picture, unfortunately too many sites just list a few positives and maybe one negative and move on without giving an entire picture.

I watched a lot of the play of the top defenders prior to winning Dolleen, and he plays a great, if very unexciting, kind of game. He's like the anti-Merkley.

that is what the pegulas wanted the media to think

just like when they told ryan to bench him the season before

they said they didn't want to see this playoff chance missed and the birds chirped between the oc and the owners to the head coach

but again, the pegulas would NEVER do that

I think there's absolutely top line wingers available after round one. Of course, the three caveats are years away from the NHL, size, and lack of a 200' game. Others could be attitude, such as lack of hunger, disinterest, not being captain material, being a me guy etc., or even just being Russian. Sabres need a better Russian scout. Apparently we'eve got a great European scout in Teemu Numminen.

We don't even have a Russian scout.

Dude trust me they did not get involved this time the only time was with Anthony Lynn and they stopped getting involved with the QB after that

The offensive coordinator had trouble withTaylor and both him and McDermitt agreed to bench him because they thought peterman was an upgrade

So no it was not the owner

They didn't lose their jobs though, they accepted buyouts. Sullivan couldn't stand to lose his column. They 100% brought this upon themselves by being smartasses and pissing off fans and they had poor relationships with ownership.

Sully should try to get a job in a basketball town.

I agree about Vogl. He did a nice job
