If half a century of conservative governments in Alberta would have managed the oil wealth better, Alberta probably wouldn't be in this mess.

from wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/...ritage_Savings_Trust_Fund
"Between 1980 and 2014, although non-renewable resource revenues (NRR) in Alberta generated almost $190 billion

- 21peter[7] the value of the Heritage Fund in 2014 was only $17.3 billion."

It's a long way from 190 billion to 'in the trillions' though

If you add 150b in equalization payments to the 190b collected, divide by 34 (number of years from 1980 to 2014) to assume the annual payment, and add a 5% annual ROR on the fund and compound it, the fund comes up to 893b billion dollars.

We started the Alberta Heritage trust fund in the 70’s. If we had been able to put the cash in instead of sending it east it would be in the trillions now.
- Iggysbff

Where is this little factual treasure from? The "east" meaning Ontario I presume helped pay for the development of the Oil Sands together with Federal Government money. Besides frittering away the money and raping the surrounding environment, a great deal of funds were absorbed by years of no provincial taxes in Alberta. Get your facts right you pin head.

Onshore oilfields are much easier to exploit than offshore, oil sands are equal or harder. It probably evens out in terms of cost of exploitation.

I could have sworn I was on a HockeyBuzz writers blog forum? Is HockeyBuzz now an election poll? Stop this madness talking politics on a Hockey Forum FFS. Like religion its a conversation with no conclusion. Enough.

According to TSN Button, Habs should draft a center at 3rd overall

Wouldn't it be more prudent to draft a 6'3 RHD wizard and trade him for a winger that played centre in minor midget?

Talking of the Q. If there's one guy that's gonna bust at the top of this draft it's gonna be Zadina. I don't think he's got it

So the Habs are gonna draft Bouchard, and then flip him to Ottawa for Zadina? Seems like a waste of time, no?

Talent wise, is Nils Lundkvist that far behind Adam Boqvist?.

I keep hearing good things about Lundkvist, could be an interesting choice if the Leafs took him..
