Kid's gonna be OK there.
Interestingly enough, Hanifin's best comparable on the Leafs might be Dermott:

Both did very well, in very sheltered roles.
If Noah was a righty, I'd be inclined to move Nylander for him. But as it stands, we've got Rielly and Dermott as the future on the left. We need more on the right. - Feeling Glucky?
Put Rielly on the right. Or Dermott. Or even Hanafin. I don’t care, just do it. |

Ah. I hadn't realized he played left side. I just read a lot of speculation about him as a trade candidate. |

I may have accidentally bathed her in nuclear waste, and I may have made certain deals with certain goat-hoofed entities.
That's not the question though.
How do I profit? - Feeling Glucky?
I always ask the underpants gnomes for advice in regards to profit. Hold on, I'll check...
Hmmm. They're asking what your stance is on burglary? |

Can't imagine a worse scenerio in Ontario politics. R and D in this province will be run by drug dealers and crack heads to whom Ford owes a favour.

(frank) MLSE for getting rid of Andy Frost and (frank) Q107 for doing the same. The new media age might be getting rid of the old guard but the reality is, who the (frank) listens to the radio anymore anyway? Get Andy Frost on a podcast and he'll be as successful as ever. - Unholy_Goalie
Or Sirius, which I'd love to love, but I can't stand the compression: doesn't matter where I'm located, it always sounds like the crappy 64k MP3s I downloaded with Napster 15 years ago. |

I think if the Leafs are seriously interested in Hanifin they'd probably have to offer Nylander +.
I like Nylander and would be happy if they'd take a lessor player, but don't know if anyone else (other than untouchables like Matthews, Marner, Rielly) would be enough to get it done. Whether people think Hanifin is worth losing Nylander and his luscious hair.... I dunno. Depends just how good Hanifin is expected to become I guess (and the quality of his hair).
At least we do in fact have a plethora of skilled young wingers, so even losing a high end one isn't the end of the world if it seriously upgrades our defense. Also if we did actually trade Willy, would that suggest we could keep JVR? - Thecakeisalie
Not sure why it would be Nylander+, Nylander is more valuable right now IMO, Hannafin is just a alluring name as he was drafted high, he hasnt been some amazing player yet. |

Each year we hear about supposed firesales and teams blowing up and we all dream about landing potential stars for peanuts and it never happens. Even Carolina's management isn't going to give away a player of Hanifin's caliber for nothing.
Maybe it won't require Nylander, but it's likely going to be a hefty price. Do you think they're going to be happy with Kapanen or Johnson +, instead of Willy? Lets be honest, Nylander has done a lot more to establish himself in the NHL than those guys, so he's likely got a lot more value right now.
I look at the team and don't see who else we could trade that Carolina would want, that seems to be somewhat comparable value for a potential top pairing dman other than Willy. And we'd still probably need to add.
Maybe we could get Hanifin or someone else similar for some other deal, and maybe their management group will get swindled somehow, but I'm trying to suggest a realistic deal here. - Thecakeisalie
For sure, but I think the target should be Brett Pesce not Hanifin

Wynne and Ford are gong shows. But name me one province that has ever had an NDP government that turned out even ok. All have failed miserably. |
