I read an article or two recently, can't remember where, but they were talking about how Juolevi isn't getting any better and how the coaches in Finland don't believe he can became a game changer in the NHL possibly becoming no better then a 4 or even bottom pair D-Men. Personally I would rather take a pass on him. Also, when it comes to Vancouver they really don't have anything that they would be willing to trade that would be good enough for ROR, and unless someone great falls not sure 7th OA is even that tempting.

Yeah bad move. The sabres should be applying pressure to him. Get ready to ride the bus in roch if you don't retire.

I'm still 70% sure he retires after collecting his signing bonus

- jcragcrumple

Or just tell him the facts. "Hey buddy, youll be in the AHL this year again. Its a business and performance decision. Thank you for your understanding."

Unless the Sabres are ok with it, a retirement gift if you will, they could easily fight it and recoup it. It's a bad faith move on Moulson's part to do that. It happens in the NFL relatively frequently because of the way they're pro-rated. The teams aren't required to go after the bonus money, but they can, and almost always win.

That's what Im thinking. The Cali assignment plus the $1m signing bonus is the gold watch retirement present.

After his signing bonus, he's only due $2m. Compared to his career earnings, that's a pittance

There has to be some kind of handshake deal if they paid him 5Mil to play for LA's minor league team last year.
Sounds like they were honest with him and he asked to get back to SoCal where he wanted to settle down.

He just sold his house here, too. It was in the Buffalo News. He knows he's done

Are you sure that's an option?

As long as he accepts that he's not going to play in North America again, he can retire and the Sabres are only on the hook for the cap hit related to this year's signing bonus because he signed his deal before he was 35

Obviously he can choose to retire. I'm just questioning if he can keep his bonus if he does.

My assumption is that it's up to the team whether they want to litigate that, similar to the NFL. If it's part of a "gentleman's agreement" to give him that in order to part ways amicably, it could make sense.

I'm making this whole theory up btw. I have no proof or sources for any of this

I honestly have no clue, but if you accept a signing bonus for the 18/19 season, maybe you have to play.

I don't think so. I mean you can't force somebody to not retire

Like I said, just not sure if he can pocket the full bonus and searching 'retirement' in the CBA is a bad idea!

I'd just buy him out. It's cleaner all around.

I'd part with pick 32 if it landed a legit second line winger

we could end up drafting the next Mitch Moroz or Jared Knight with pick 32

- homiedclown

I completely agree. With how deep this draft is suppose to be I would be very hesitant to trade pick 32 for anything other than a guaranteed top six LW. Given the Russian factor even a guy like Denisenko has a chance of falling to us and he would be worth much more than anything we could get in return for the pick, even in a package.

Why is moulson retiring? That's hopeful.

No one retires out of 5 million $. Bad asset management.

He sold his house because, he will not be playing in buffalo.

Ahl or possibly nhl team looking to hit the cap minimum.

Hes getting paid / bought out/ waived / traded.

Are the yearly signing bonuses paid in full July 1? Or are they prorated throughout the year?

play dahlin on the other side

juolevi-dahlin
mccabe-risto
guhle-nelson

new kid and borgen in pipeline

-homiedclown

No
At least not right away

He’s probably talented enough that he can succeed on the right side as well,
but why not put him in the best position possible to be a dominant player?

He’s a left shot defenseman who has primarily played the left side for the most part
Let’s not mess with that

Maybe move McCabe or Scandella (etc) over if we have to

After a cursory bout of research, Ty Dellandrea is the guy I'm hoping falls to the Sabres for the first pick of round two. It would be a minor upset, maybe but not out of the realm of possibility.

Sounds good to me
That was a nice write up
I remember hearing his name spoken of for playing well in that U18 tourney that was mentioned in the article

McKenzie & Button have him ranked 41 & 50,
so i think there’s a decent chance he actually could be there for us

I’d be happy with that pick

Thats why we're discussing what MIGHT happen.
Because if he was telling the Sabres to suck rocks, he and his family would have just spent a year in Rochester and would be looking forward to another year there.
So, the speculation is that we did him a favor, and he is going to return it for the opportunity to move his family to where he planned to settle down after his career was over.
Its very Odd to pay a guy 5m to play for another teams AHL team.

agreed

the more I think about it, keep him on the left

I just dont like the right side of
risto, bogo, nelson and then someone playing out of position when bogo goes down

I would not be shocked if fedun sticks with the big club

he could return the favor by being allergic to something though
