So if the Marlies are supposed to be playing the same system as the Leafs, wtf can't the Leafs play like the Marlies?
I hope the big team is watching the kids, so they can see the system they're supposed to be playing.
The last 2 games the Marlies played were a thing of beauty.

That's some interesting poop right there.

So back to A/B tandems? Can we let Sparks run with it for 25-30 games?

The Leafs need a back-up who can play a minimum of 25 games leaving Andersen to play 57. But even 30 would be nice. If it's Sparks, great, if not, get somebody else who can. The Leafs D probably won't improve that much next year so if the same amount of chances and shots are going to be coming, they need somebody who can help Andersen shoulder the load. Either that or miraculously start giving up only 24-27 shots per game but that's not going to happen any time soon.

Coincidence coincided by some injuries that kept them out from playing more.

The reason they played less games doesn't matter as much as the results that followed.

Goalies who face less shots are on better teams who are more likely to make the finals.

Absolutely. But if you're not giving up less shots and you're relying on your goalie to make a stupid amount of saves, maybe get a back-up who can help him out so he doesn't burn out by the end of the season. Tampa Bay is 100% going to be looking for a back-up for next year. So is Winnipeg. They know they relied on their goalies too much for too long and it caught up to them when it mattered most.

I think this past season's Leafs are a good example. If you watched the games, Andersen was fantastic. The Leafs gave up too many shots because their D needs improvement (which seems to be a general consensus). My theory is they don't need to rest Andersen more, they need to upgrade the D corps.

Obviously they need to upgrade their D but you think it's easier to get a #1 RHD and another legit top 4 D or get a back-up who can play 25-30 games? I'm going to go with getting a back-up although they definitely need to do both.

Relative to the teams in the AHL, the Marlies have the horses they need to be the best. The Leafs don't.
