Chill out fellas. I hope we don't trade Phil but if we do, Rackell and Manson (or Montour) would have to come back (adding Hunwick and Sheary to the deal as well)

If Phil had a middling season this past season I'd consider it, but he had a great year. I can't see any reason why the Pens don't just keep him, make what depth adjustments they can and take another run at the Cup. The empty cupboard effect will make for a bad hangover when this current era winds down but until then there's no reason they can't add another Cup or two, at that point who gives a poop if you're stuck with the bad end of Kessel's contract for a bit.

Completely agree with all of this.

It's strange how all the media, despite being in different cities, all hate him. I guess they dislike a guy who won't kiss their ring.
- AdamFrench

Maybe the media resent him because he has more balls than they could ever hope to have.

I’d be willing to bet Kessel won’t put up 92 points next year anyways. Career year at 30 years old doubt 92 points is repeatable. I’d say he will be 65-75. Still not “easy” to replace but a lot different.

People keep making comments like you have to replace a 92 point scorer... well it’s doubtful he’s gonna be that for the Penguins next years anyways

- pens4life-66

I actually said that last year that I didn't think Kessel would break 80 again and he beat that easily. Still going to agree with you though, he's not a 92 point scorer every year. But what he is is still really difficult to replace and quite honestly they shouldn't try right now.

Exactly. That’s what I kind of meant by my locker clean out talks. I think he was the only penguin not to talk to media. That I’m aware of anyways. Just seemed odd to me he would leave like that.
- pens4life-66

Not really, he just about rarely talks to the media. Then the media gets mad and writes bad stories about him. Phil just isn't a people pleaser, I wouldn't read much into it.

I'm sure JR will listen to all and any offers and unless it's just an offer he can't refuse, which is probably unlikely, so I believe neither will be moved.

The only acceptable scenarios in my opinion are the following...

-Letang is swapped for either Doughty or Karlsson
-Phil is swapped for someone like Wheeler, Benn, Landeskog, etc...

or

-Letang is swapped for a winger like JVR(pre-negotiated contract of course), Sam Reinhart, Nyquist, etc...

-Phil is swapped for Barrie, Vlassic, Giordano, etc...

These scenarios? You guessed it; they make no sense and neither does moving Letang or Kessel.

- Rinosaur

Sure I agree, there are probably crazy scenarios for Phil and Letang that you'd have to take. More likely Phil since he had a great season even by his standards while Letang's was below and I have hope he can bounce back since he can train this off-season.

I'm wondering what She-man could get? Sign him then trade him for??

Only if Brassard is kept of course. Then sign my man DR.

Why would you trade a player you can easily retain with practically no affect to the cap?

Dude comments on games he never even watched. He extrapolates from box scores; it's pretty astounding.

I understand why you get so much grief in other threads.

So Sheahan played well for the Pens - above his performance for the RedWings.
Hes going to get at least 2m qualifying offer unless he gets term - not exactly next to nothing or 'no affect to the cap'.
If Brassard is kept (as I stated in my first post), chances are he won't be 3C unless Brassard plays winger or plays up for an injùry.
There are other cheaper options for a 4C - ie: Derek Ryan
Selling high on a player that wont play top 6 isn't a bad idea if a cheaper option is found.
There's a few teams looking to get better down the middle - ie: Carolina for 1. Sheahan would be an upgrade for them rather than resigning Ryan who is ufa. We could possibly package something to get a good player back.
With Brassard, Sheahan is really a luxury which I don't mind but JR did say changes were coming via trades.

So Is there enough thought gone into my question about trading Sheahan?

I get grief from two trolls in other threads: Monsieurs Iggy and Larson, so that doesn't count.

On to the good stuff...

You have zero concept of the cap which is clearly obvious. The $2M he'll get doesn't raise the cap from it's previous hit. The probably $750 he'll get also doesn't raise his hit when you consider the likelihood Rowney won't be returning.

Everything else you said is just, well, dumb.

I'm very clear on the meaning. You extrapolate your information from box scores. Did I stutter?

Yes, I use High Danger chances to look at a game. How dare I use useful stats. I'll start using box scores like you do.

Iggy & Jero are only 2, I've seen a few more.

I understand the cap very well.

So with the money spent on Sheahan, it can't be spent on something more important? Cap is going up, our rfas need a pay rise & paying a player that can be considered a luxury Is not good cap management - if you can understand that?

Explain how the other points are dumb?

Just got the Vegas couple hours ago! I can confirm this is definitely a hockey city right now. Knights poop everywhere.

Pumped for the game tomorrow. Never been to a Stanley cup finals game before. Wish it was the pens though. Rink must have some amazing cooling as it’s expected to be 36 degrees or 97 degrees for you Americans.

Last part first...

The Pens made this very mistake last year thinking they could just fill those bottom six spots with whomever. The lost out on Cullen and went in with a rotating door of McKegg and Rowney. So yeah, let's do the same thing. Move the guy that helps the depth and take a gamble hoping they can replace him on the cheap.

Can the money be spent elsewhere? Yeah. Where? The money spent on Hagelin, Rust, Sheary, Kessel, Hornqvist, etc... they can get rid of one of those guys and spend it elsewhere.

OR, they can keep the guy that works and doesn't shrink the cap space. Nahhh, let's go with your idea.

Welcome to Vegas! Vegas has definitely become gaga for hockey and it's awesome. Every local bar(and there are more than any other city) is packed to the brim on game nights.
