I would throw a 2 year $16 million contract at Kovi and I can get on board with that being a smarter play than signing Tavares.

But like you said Kovi isn't coming here

- Stripes77

Elliot Friedman thinks that NyI are going after Kovy to try & get Tavares to stay

I don’t think the Isles end up with either though

Unless I missed something, they almost never lose decisions on battles. Manfred better be prepared.

Friend of mine works for the Jays, he says Manfred is prepared to go to war. A work stoppage has been inevitable for some time now.

Spot on.
Owners and GMs screw themselves hard every year in FA.
They do have to have some clause that enables a modified walk away for contracts which exceed n years based on Age of player...the older you are, the lesser number of years a team has to commit hard to. I.e if your 27 then max number of committed years is 6, with a reduced buyout for years 7 and 8....if you are 32 then it should be 3 years hard, and declining bouyout in remaking years.

Something like that.

- IonSabres

I disagree with your proposal only on the grounds of a stupid GM should be penalized for being dumb. He shouldn't be allowed training wheels so to speak to help limit his idiocy.

The players have nuked an entire season before, and won. Good luck to Manfred.

major-league players have seen their share of MLB’s overall league revenue plummet in recent years, with player payroll as a share of league revenues falling from a high of 56% in 2002 to just 38% in 2015. So while this offseason’s lack of activity may be unprecedented, in some respects it is simply the culmination of a trend dating back 15 years.

They're vulnerable, this would be the time to go after them

8 million for next year and the year after?

Dude can't play defense or score outside of the power play, this isn't the guy you pay 8 million dollars for no matter what the term

Green is just like Shattenkirk
Supremely overrated & overpaid

If the owners come for guaranteed contracts, then sayonara the season. Short of that, I can't see it happening. Funny that most of the things you listed are essentially owners and GM's more or less being asked to be saved from themselves.
- kingcong39

F*) the players then. Nothing in life is a guarantee, so neither should your contract.

Why if you decided to give up after signing a 6YR 30MM deal should the team be strapped with that.

The NHL cannot afford another lockout.

No league can, fans are fed up in every sport with millionaires and billionaires fighting over money.

But hey what do I know.

The NHL can choose to opt out of the CBA on September 1, 2019 (expiring in 2020). The NHLPA can choose to opt out of the CBA on September 19, 2019

Wouldn't end things in 2020 mean after the 2019-2020 season, ergo the 2020-2021 season being the one in jeopardy?

The MLBPA resolve is such that they'd almost nuke half a decade if need be in order to not cave in.

Right...
which means the lockout would start in 2020, not 2019

That’s how I’m reading it anyways

Look up “potential NHL lockout”
Every article says it could be the 20-21 season

That'd be weird, you'd opt out of the current CBA but still play a year?

yeah i obviously googled it when i came up with that im just confused why that's the case.

Last time they opted out that year was the shortened year. How are they going to opt out in september of 2019 and just play the season?

Okay that deadline is just for intent to terminate early so yeah i guess the 2020-2021 season

My bad, the language in those articles was kinda weird, made me think the opt out was 2019

It's funny that Housley isn't playing coy at all with who the Sabres are gonna pick

"It came down to the last two teams there and when they flipped over the Buffalo Sabres logo, I was jumping up and down and we were high-fiving in our family room," Housley said. "I thought, 'This is finally a great breakthrough for this organization.' What a cornerstone for us to get Rasmus Dahlin. It really gives us hope. All of the things that have happened in the past, this is one bright spot to look forward to heading into the draft that can change a franchise."
