Will he though? Personally, I'm slightly worried about that
- Giroux_Is_God

Whats to worry about? He can't go back to Juniors, and I think he'll excel in the AHL.

No kidding.

Quite the logjam with Tokarski, Lyon, and Stolarz in the AHL and Elliot and Neuvirth in the NHL. Maybe Lyon goes to the NHL but either way it's a lot of bodies competing for 2 starting spots.

I'm aware he can't go back to juniors, and yes, I think he has the ability to excel in pro hockey and eventually the NHL. My point is I hope he plays most nights.

I hear ya, and you’re right. If he had been with the Phantoms the entire playoff run, then maybe you try it. Just frustrated after watching game 3 and wondering if there is anything the Phantoms can do to change things up a bit and show some life. But in reality, due to injury and OT, some guys had to play ridiculous minutes last round and now it’s probably catching up to them.

They should be a lot of fun to watch next year though. Hart will be in goal, guys like Vorobyev and possibly Vecchs (if not with the Flyers) will have a year under their belts and Rubtsov will add speed up front as well.

- BiggE

Did you say Hart. That kid can flat out play. Plus, is it Sandstrom (spelling) from over seas. They got some talent coming up between the pipes. Gotta build from the back end through the center and out.

Don't worry about room for Hart. Worry about room for the other guys. Just saying he is more polished then the others right now. The word on him during the camps was he looked better then Felix who was showing up the AHL guys. I gotta believe that Hart will make room for himself there.

I think what is really important is that Hexy has opened up a lot of cap space with more to come. He is going to need it to sign some of the young talent but that is the game and he knows it. Love that guy. He is not perfect but he has done so far what he set out to do with his plan.

He made some up popular moves to free up space and once a cap hell team is now getting close to the point to make some big moves.

I highly doubt that he makes a big splash in the FA market. Not this year. A trade could happen but he is not over spending yet. I do believe when he feels he has the team he will go all in just like the Kings.

Cap space, young talent, home grown defense, and a brick wall in goal. That is the time to strike.

Generation X has a hard time with Hexy. I’m good with most of what he’s doing too

Re Simmonds:

Looking strictly at optimal value, the time to trade him was at last year’s draft, but Hextall wasn’t going move both Schenn and Simmonds at the same time nor do I blame him.

This draft though, is not the time to move him. Now some GM may come to Hextall with an offer that is just too good to pass up (yeah, I’m looking at you, Chiarelli), but odds are that won’t happen.

So let him get healthy and roll through the season with a guy who plays as hard as Simmer does who is also playing for what will probably be his last big payday. If the Flyer’s are no better than a bubble team as the deadline nears, then let the contenders start making offers, play one off the other, and take the best offer. If the Flyers are a solid playoff team, keep him for the run and after the season either re-sign him if you can get it done with a 4 year deal and the dollars are workable or, if not, trade his rights.

I really can’t see it playing out any other way.

Simmonds is going to get payed. I think it will be a fair deal. He is not going anywhere like you said unless someone offers the farm on him. Simmer's season was good but not up to his standards most likely largely due to injury. I don't think anyone will be over paying at the draft. Like you said...maybe the tread deadline.

But he will most likely be a Flyers for a long time.

Not forgotten. Was signed to an entry-level contract. Due to injury, this was more or less a lost season for him but it actually works out in terms of him spending one more season in Sweden next year and then joining the Phantoms for 2019-20.

That is big. Next season will be crowded but the year after will have all kinds of chances for goalies to iron down spots. It's funny how an injury puts a talented prospect out of the spot light. Everybody was talking about him last year.

Until Hart was drafted he was the hope. He still is in my mind. Lots of talent.

By the way Bill, real impressed by your knowledge of Flyer hockey. So glad we have a guy like you that can make it fun even in the off season. Thanks for all you do.
