Honestly. I would do that straight up. No need to add a 5th even. - J35Bacher
Weiss has more term so may need to add something small. At least I think he has more term
Then Get Antoine rousell for a bottom 6 role. |

Phantoms are done, however one good thing could come from this series. Why not give a kid like Frost a taste of pro hockey. It's not like they are scoring goals anyway, so I don't see how adding a skilled kid could hurt. - BiggE
BiggE, you have a great hockey IQ and are well informed. I like just about everything you post but this I can't get behind.
I'm looking forward to seeing this kid grow and it would be exciting to see him play in the AHL but now??? This game??? No way. Kid slowed down at the end of the year. Then throw him on a team he has not practiced or played with and against men. No thanks.
I have to say this kid excites me though. When Hexy made that trade and took the kid it was a head scratcher for me and then the season started. Wow, did Frost make the Flyers look smart. He has some wheels on him. Hope he continues to progress because the Flyers can use a good center when he is ready. |

The dude has an "off year" hampered by some injuries that he decided to play through to help his team and he still puts up 20 plus goals and fair points. Isn't he like 30 years old. Not near putting him out to pasture like age. I hear that power forward argument and how it will retire people younger but not jumping on the send Simmer now wagon. This guys great in so many areas. He can get the puck in the net, he can mix it up, he can screen the goalie, he forchecks well, he scares the poop out of the other team, he will drop the gloves to protect his teammates, is a class act in the community, and has grit. The team loves this guy. He signed that fantastic contract (which will end soon) and loves philly. LOVE HIM BACK. This guy is going to rebound next year and it will be like G got love this year. - peesinwind
I get it. Your a Simmonds fan.
I am allowed to have my own thoughts on this.
I know he played through injury. But I also know guys don't get less injuries as they age. Especially the style game he plays.
If he isn't moved then ok. I am a Flyers fan first. So if they feel keeping him is best then ok. I just am not one to think his style of play is going to lead to this huge recovery and I see future injuries popping up next year.

I'm a Flyers fan and Simmer plays an important role for this team. As does Coots, G, TK, Provy, Patricks, Ghost, and V. Not ready to see any of these guys go.
I get your concern but this guy is no wimp and can score.
I also get the injuries with age thing...my body is slowly losing its rebound ability but 30 isn't something to get worried about. The stuff he was going though are all full recovery stuff.
I'm not going to panic on Morin but an ACL is more to worry about...even at 24. But like I said. I will ride Morin for now and see how he recovers. A 6'7" guy that can skate with a mean streak would be welcome. Hope he can get back on the mend. |

Phantoms haven't had much practice time since the Toronto series started. He's likely been skating with the other guys who aren't playing.
Asking him to make his pro debut in a 3-0 conference final elimination game against the best team in the AHL without the benefit of bona fide practice time and on the heels of looking worn down in the latter two series of the OHL playoffs wouldn't be fair to the player or create anything other than a struggle for him in limited ice time.
Additionally, putting a 170-some pound (probably less right now, since players typically lose weight over the season) player who just turned 19 a couple weeks ago in to try to help save your season would send a "we're in a panic" message to your team -- the guys who got you to the conference final -- that already seems a bit fragile after what happened in Game 3.
Frost's time will come, and he's got a good shot at being a really solid performer, but tonight is not that time. - bmeltzer

I hear ya, and you’re right. If he had been with the Phantoms the entire playoff run, then maybe you try it. Just frustrated after watching game 3 and wondering if there is anything the Phantoms can do to change things up a bit and show some life. But in reality, due to injury and OT, some guys had to play ridiculous minutes last round and now it’s probably catching up to them.
They should be a lot of fun to watch next year though. Hart will be in goal, guys like Vorobyev and possibly Vecchs (if not with the Flyers) will have a year under their belts and Rubtsov will add speed up front as well. |

Re Simmonds:
Looking strictly at optimal value, the time to trade him was at last year’s draft, but Hextall wasn’t going move both Schenn and Simmonds at the same time nor do I blame him.
This draft though, is not the time to move him. Now some GM may come to Hextall with an offer that is just too good to pass up (yeah, I’m looking at you, Chiarelli), but odds are that won’t happen.
So let him get healthy and roll through the season with a guy who plays as hard as Simmer does who is also playing for what will probably be his last big payday. If the Flyer’s are no better than a bubble team as the deadline nears, then let the contenders start making offers, play one off the other, and take the best offer. If the Flyers are a solid playoff team, keep him for the run and after the season either re-sign him if you can get it done with a 4 year deal and the dollars are workable or, if not, trade his rights.
I really can’t see it playing out any other way. |

I still feel this draft offers the same as last year. There are contenders that could make the move because his contract is cheap and can fit in for a team for a run.
I could see Boston since they plan to let Nash walk. St.Louis could do it. Nashville.
I do like the idea of Simmonds for Trouba.

Such a tough spot with Simmonds..
To me he is the closest you get to a traditional "Flyers Player" ..
I dont want to see him moved as I am not willing to write him off after one injury plagued seasons but he is a viable piece you could use to get some assets in .
I just dont know that im ready to see a soft team like the Flyers get event softer. |

Problem is, I'm not sure Ottawa qualifies as a "prominent NHL franchise".
