Bill,

Any confirmation on Laczynski and Allison going back to schoool? I figured Allison might because of the injury but thought Laczynski could be a solid pro and might even push for a role on the Flyers quickley because of his type of game.

de Haan is interesting.

I wondered about a guy like Sbisa. He was a solid skater and is a year older then de Haan. i know he had some injuries.

Plus he can play wing in a pinch.

Brayden Point for Simmonds.

Huh...that directly contradicts thoughts I've read here. Now I'm confused lol

I find it hard to believe a hockey player built like a high school paperboy wouldn't stand up to the rigors of professional hockey.

Honestly. I would do that straight up. No need to add a 5th even.

In a way, I actually think you would get more out of Martin as he plays to his role. But i wouldn't play him every game either. He'd be a nice missle to have when playing Wilson and the caps or the Pens.

Sometimes I like being able to have the missle if needed.

Thank you.

If they have big years i can't see either staying for a senior season. I thought Allison would have signed if not for the knee injury

Oh I like the idea of a guy who can stop Wilson from being an idiot but I'm not a Martin in that role fan. I'd rather carry Goul at league min to do that.

Caveat: with the fact the coach actually plays him.

If Weise played like he did in the last playoff game I would be fine with him in a 4th line role.

He just hasn't brought what i thought he would bring. I knew he wasn't a scorer but i thought he would give you some greasy goals and some physicality.

He's just not going to bust his ass every game like you'd want/expected from a limited skill 4th liner.

I mentioned Calvin de Haan a few weeks ago. Still like him if they change the mix a bit among the vets.

Also, it's not definite that they won't start the season with both Sanheim and Myers. Sanheim's work load in the NHL should increase next season, although perhaps not by as much as many fans would like (year 3 in the NHL is where I expect his long-term role to start to emerge). Myers will get a long look in camp and, if he doesn't make it, then as a potential in-season recall. I would expect he gets scratched or disappears in 3rd periods his first year or two in the NHL, but that doesn't make it lock that he's not on the roster.

Any which way, I think the decision not to re-sign Manning will hold. It is also possible that Gudas gets traded. While I think they want some physicality/ muscle beyond Hägg, I also think they recognize a need for better puck movement up to the forwards.

- bmeltzer

thanks Bill...

what do you think they could get for Gudas? Maybe a 3rd, maybe a conditional pick?

And that's why I actually wouldn't mind a straight Martin for Weise because I think Martin does give you what he has. Kind of like Reeves in Vegas. I don't think you have to worry about effort when they play.

Leight as hell, by like a month, but I saw the Flyers signed David Kase. Didn't realize they valued him that much at this point. Good for him though.

His brother plays a solid game for Anaheim.

I just love the Flyers have prospects worth watching. For so many years the minor team was poor because they always traded off picks and prospects to win now.

He had 23 points in 40 some games in the SHL last year.

I don't know how competitive that league is, but Kase is only 21.

Why would Hextall be looking to move Gudas with Morin hurt and Manning not being re-signed. They have only have 5 dmen left with NHL experience, and of those five, Gudas is a better puck mover than Hagg or MacDonald who constantly get stuck in their own end.

These things were also said about other players in the past.

Thing is, not that I don't like his game, I feel some people overvalue some of Simmonds other skills. I feel some of the wear and tear has taken it's toll on him and I am not sure it's something that will get better as he ages. Also role. I know he was a great PP performer but does he just go right on the top PP next year? I feel like they want to get Patrick out there more as he has elite skills with the puck and brings a little more and some different looks.

Yes he had some injuries this year. That even gives me more pause moving forward because as guys age, and players that play his type of game, they don't seem to become the same type of player. they get nagging injuries and things start popping up.

- J35Bacher

The dude has an "off year" hampered by some injuries that he decided to play through to help his team and he still puts up 20 plus goals and fair points. Isn't he like 30 years old. Not near putting him out to pasture like age. I hear that power forward argument and how it will retire people younger but not jumping on the send Simmer now wagon. This guys great in so many areas. He can get the puck in the net, he can mix it up, he can screen the goalie, he forchecks well, he scares the poop out of the other team, he will drop the gloves to protect his teammates, is a class act in the community, and has grit. The team loves this guy. He signed that fantastic contract (which will end soon) and loves philly. LOVE HIM BACK. This guy is going to rebound next year and it will be like G got love this year.
