Wayne Simmonds is kind of a unique player, and the Flyers are under no obligation to trade him.
- jmatchett383

Yep - Flyers are in a great position with him. Would be great to keep him, imho, but in order to let him go it will take a really sweet deal.

Backes at 50% + Donato + one of a)2018 first (will be a 20+ pick), b) Zboril, or c) Carlo.

It's steep, but Wayne Simmonds is kind of a unique player, and the Flyers are under no obligation to trade him.

If I trade Simmonds it will not be in the Eastern conference...

Boston's 2018 first belongs to the Rangers now. They wouldn't trade two NHL experienced prospects for Simmonds, but w/e

I trade him to whoever brings the best offer that helps the Flyers. Maybe your hesitant a little in the metro but I wouldn't be against trading with any teams in the Atlantic.

Yup. You don't turn down a better move for your team because of the conference the other team happens to be in. Maybe in the old days where you played those teams a ton but that's certainly not the case anymore.

Silly me, how could I possibly think that a team trailing 3-0 in a series and struggling to score goals might want to add a highly skilled youngster for game 4?

What the (frank) was I thinking???

truth is, if they do trade him there will be no shortage of teams who will make offers. If I traded him in the eastern conference, the deal would have to be better. Again, someone out west would pony up for Simmonds.

I wonder if a Simmonds trade could be just as easy as what Nashville and Montreal did with Weber and Subban.

Simmonds to a team with cap issues for a youngish NHL vet.

Chicago has cap problems. Simmonds for Saad?

Would you do a straight swap of Simmonds for Trouba? Trouba could be a guy who you can play in your top 4 the next 8 years.

Simmonds and 19 for Dougie Hamilton? Another defensman that can really help solidify your top 4.

Simmonds for Athanasiou?

I was just curious if maybe getting value over volume could be a better option.

If the Flyers decide they're willing to trade Simmonds and the best offer is from a team in the Eastern Conference, they should not turn it down because of that.

I'd do him for Trouba straight up, but I'm biased.

I used to think you could get this big package like a 1st, youngish NHL vet and something else but the more I think about it the more i think it wouldn't be as big as people think.

I like Trouba too. I know people say we have defensman in the system but if you can get Trouba or Hamilton, those guys solidify your top 4.

Sanheim and Myers could be great but they aren't special like Provorov was so i think it would be good to have something like Trouba there, as he is also only 24, to build with.

I get it...it is a long off season. But they are not trading Simmer. I know Hexy would pull the trigger if someone over paid and it makes sense to his time frame. Yet, that is a long shot. Simmer is a unique player (power forward with some grit and leadership) and I personally wouldn't want the Flyers to lose him. I do enjoy the what if's though.

These things were also said about other players in the past.

Thing is, not that I don't like his game, I feel some people overvalue some of Simmonds other skills. I feel some of the wear and tear has taken it's toll on him and I am not sure it's something that will get better as he ages. Also role. I know he was a great PP performer but does he just go right on the top PP next year? I feel like they want to get Patrick out there more as he has elite skills with the puck and brings a little more and some different looks.

Yes he had some injuries this year. That even gives me more pause moving forward because as guys age, and players that play his type of game, they don't seem to become the same type of player. they get nagging injuries and things start popping up.

Remember though, he was on a tear to start the season. His injuries seemed to build off of the original one as his body had to compensate. I think he can return to CLOSE to form.

while I agree, I believe if they were to trade Simmonds they would find just as good of a deal out west, if it is close, out west he goes. If someone is leaps and bounds better, then sure east is fine.

Simmonds will come back to haunt the Flyers, not just the regular season but also in the playoffs.

FWIW, while Patrick will play netfront if asked to (and he did well for the Flyers both when Simmonds was out of the lineup and then late season when he was switched onto PP1), he has said it was not something he had done in the past and was not his most natural role although he was getting used to it.

Although not to nearly the same degree as in the past, the netfront guy takes a beating. Not every player enjoys that role. Patrick has shown he CAN play it and be successful but he still views himself more as a distributor.

great point, the wear and tear especially, you don't want your future #1 center getting hammered nightly.

Bill-
how about tell us what you would like to see with the D going into next season? We know Morin is out, we know they will not start the season with Sanheim and Myers. Heck they should consider moving Gudas..

Who would you like to see them bring in and what would your top 6 be?

I'd prefer Patrick play more of a playmaker role, maybe where Voracek plays right now.

Has Frost been practicing with the team?
- MBFlyerfan

Phantoms haven't had much practice time since the Toronto series started. He's likely been skating with the other guys who aren't playing.

Asking him to make his pro debut in a 3-0 conference final elimination game against the best team in the AHL without the benefit of bona fide practice time and on the heels of looking worn down in the latter two series of the OHL playoffs wouldn't be fair to the player or create anything other than a struggle for him in limited ice time.

Additionally, putting a 170-some pound (probably less right now, since players typically lose weight over the season) player who just turned 19 a couple weeks ago in to try to help save your season would send a "we're in a panic" message to your team -- the guys who got you to the conference final -- that already seems a bit fragile after what happened in Game 3.

Frost's time will come, and he's got a good shot at being a really solid performer, but tonight is not that time.

And I get that.

But I feel like adding Patrick can give them more looks and maybe get more motion in the PP. I feel they sometimes get really stagnant. Just from my view.

I mentioned Calvin de Haan a few weeks ago. Still like him if they change the mix a bit among the vets.

Also, it's not definite that they won't start the season with both Sanheim and Myers. Sanheim's work load in the NHL should increase next season, although perhaps not by as much as many fans would like (year 3 in the NHL is where I expect his long-term role to start to emerge). Myers will get a long look in camp and, if he doesn't make it, then as a potential in-season recall. I would expect he gets scratched or disappears in 3rd periods his first year or two in the NHL, but that doesn't make it lock that he's not on the roster.

Any which way, I think the decision not to re-sign Manning will hold. It is also possible that Gudas gets traded. While I think they want some physicality/ muscle beyond Hägg, I also think they recognize a need for better puck movement up to the forwards.

de Haan is interesting.

I wondered about a guy like Sbisa. He was a solid skater and is a year older then de Haan. i know he had some injuries.
