Ferland wasnât ever the problem ...goalie injuries ...bad second D pairing .... bottom 6 scoring
Those were the problems - Redmile247
As well as a "power play" where we would have been better to decline the penalty if we could. |

I think the Flames need to figure out what they want to play. This is a copy cat league and with Vegas's success I think teams will be looking for 4 lines that have speed & skill.
I think half the players here are built for yesterdays NHL truculent, physical and grinding. The flames need to increase their speed and skill up front and this list does none of that.
They need to get younger, faster and add more offensive skill. I think their defense is fine although I think Hamilton should be traded. Not that he is bad, quite the opposite. He can get the Flames what they need, help up front. I think Toronto would be a good trading partner. Hamilton for Kapanen, Andreas Johnson and their first round pick. That gets the Flames 2 young highly skilled top 6 forwards. It also helps the power play.
Take the first round pick and a prospect and offer this to Buffalo for O'Reilly ( I would make the prospect Adam Fox, a NY native who only signs with the Flames if he wants to play here, if not he walks.) Buffalo would covet Fox and Fox would probably leave school to play close to home.
Adding the Toronto pieces and O'Reilly would definitely change the culture, the speed and skill level of the Flames. There is little chance of all this happening but imagine if it did how much better the Flames would be next year - LifesBetter

Personally would like to see Janko, Kulak, Shore remain. Rest are meh...
Also looking more and more clear that Brouwer needs to be bought out. 4-line league now and can't have any passengers. Bring up the youth and let em play |

I agree in that the only way Dougie gets moved is if it is a clear overpayment coming back to Calgary. He is what every team in the NHL is looking for in a defenceman - that means if you want him that bad you will overpay. Like something along the lines from Toronto of Nylander + Kapanen + their 1st this year. If that's too much (or something along those lines) then no problem - we just keep him.

Exactly....Hamilton is in a different class of d-man than Adam Larsson and he fetched one of the top elite LW in the league because d-men are more valuable (esp RHS)
and harder to find, especially one as gifted offensively as Hamilton
So you are gonna be getting a PROVEN elite forward for a guy like Hamilton, and he has to be young enough to be a staple in our future core.
I mean if Chia was making that trade for Toronto, it would probably be a 1 for 1 Hamilton for Austen Matthews level of overpayment |

Cant wait for oilers to miss playoffs again and watch mclellan and co get the boot and gully be fired twice in two years. |

So apparently there are some rumours that Kessel might be available from the penguins which sounds like the perfect winger for the top line. What would you guys think it would take to get him here?
Guessing Brodie and Bennett would be the place to start...

I think they'd be looking at Hamilton to be honest.
Someone threw the idea of Subban for Kessel. Be curious if that's something that happens |

They can look at Hamilton all they want. But it's going to be in a Flames jersey. No way should the Flames trade Hamilton for Kessel, maybe Brodie... |

Or Calgary can trade for Pacioretty without touching their current D core |

Like Kessell but if we are trading Brodie and Bennett its gotta be for someone younger and more difficult to play against and put the puck in the net.
Lots of those guys around. |

I thought the Flames had totally given up on Bennett? |

Who cares. We should stay clear of him. Heâs apparently a very difficult guy to coach and has a very big ego; likely to clash with teammates. And the cost wouldnât be worth it |

PIT is apparently looking for D. Perhaps theyâd have interest in Brodie. Our target should be Sprong. Take back Hagelins contract and maybe we get more.
Absolutely not for Kessel! |

Flames botched his development as a high first rounder ....but if you look past his draft position he is still an effective player |

That's pretty much what I thought, kinda victimized by how high he went but his numbers aren't horrible, certainly not top line C numbers but at only 21 it's a little early to throw in the towel completely |

When he first came to cgy he played a much more skilled game ...he would try skill moves ...everytime he made a mistake he was punished to the point where he stopped trying skilled moves and just played a simpler game ...now he has no confidence and plays like a depth player |
