Would you trade Guentzy for Phil straight up?
Your deal doesn't exist my friend, but I understand why you put it out there. - Aussiepenguin
Guentzel only has one more year of being absurdly cost effective and Phil is definitely super valuable at 6.8 mil. A near PPG guy below 7 mil is a really, really good contract.
Yeah. I'd trade Guentzel straight up for Phil Kessel. |

Madden is reporting from his sources that the Penguins will try to trade Kessel this summer. Say what you want about Madden, he doesn't typically make stuff up.
I'd rather keep Phil but since not much else going on in Pens land... anyone care to take a stab at teams that would actually trade for Kessel and what the return might be... - YouMeAndDupuis9
After the playoffs JR was asked about injuries and specifically Kessel to which replied something along the lines of it not being anything serious. I just got the impression from that interview that JR was not impressed at all with Kessels performance and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him dealt.
Personally hope he's talking to the add wizard in Arizona, no doubt that guy will give the farm for 81's advanced stats. And since Arizona will never make the playoffs it will look like a great trade for the kid.
Im officially starting the rumour of Kessel for OEL.

Question is how much is Guentzy going to get paid? I'm not sure too many GM's are doing that trade especially with more assets attached. |

I think Guentzel gets 4.5 mil.
And that's exactly why I would never trade Kessel and why its generally a bad idea to trade super stars in general. Its near impossible to get market value or God forbid overpaid because few teams have the spare assets to do so. Realistically, Kessel right now would get a better version of the package we gave up originally, which IMO is just not nearly worth it when you're competing for Cups. |

As far as the Kessel thing goes.... It was widely reported (by credible reporters) last year that Kessel was on the market. I don't think it's a great revelation that he'd be on the market again this year. He's got a pretty restrictive contract so I don't think he'll be easy to move. He can pick 8 teams for which he'll accept a trade. That's tough.
I gotta say it's misguided to move him because I don't see his production as easily replaceable. I mean, I don't think we make the playoffs this season without him playing out of his mind during the regular season.
Madden does have Pens sources, but that doesn't make up for being the biggest douchebag in Pittsburgh media. |

Who were the credible sources? Mackey and Yohe did nothing but speculate and I don't think McKenzie or Dregger every seriously reported it beyond acknowledging local media guys' speculation.
Madden could be a legit good reporter because people who actually know him seem to really like the guy, so he has the proper sources, but he's not interested in reporting. He has a good business being a character and performer. That's fine, I just don't get off to getting indignant at people like Skip Bayless who actively try to piss people off. Its why I generally just laugh at Skip but actively get mad at Steven A. who does actually think himself a journalist but is just a (frank)ing idiot. |

Ron Cooke said he knows "for a fact" they were trying to trade Kessel last year. Whether you like him or hate him, he's not a "rumor" guy. He's a legit reporter. |

Still think Mario was the greatest goal scorer. Ovi is the greatest shooter of all time.

Thats a very interesting way to think of the difference between shooter and goalscorer. I think I agree with this. |

I hope Ovi gets his shoulder caved in by a clean check from Reaves and can never shoot the same way again. I like good hockey players as much as anyone but they ha e to at least seem like good people to me. (frank) Ovi, (frank) the Caps. Go Vegas. |

Right so we can only ever speculate trades on a hockey forum if it first comes from Bob Mackenzie. Why does the conversation have to be about Madden? Just wanted to see what y'all could come up with something logical in a Kessel deal. Logic is hard to come by around these parts. - YouMeAndDupuis9
Like Victoro said, you're getting flak for saying Madden doesn't make stuff up, not because it isn't a topic worth discussing.
I personally wouldn't trade Phil. I get that it's probably true this is the best time to try and trade him and get good value if you're worried about decline, but this is a now team.
We'll probably see Crosby, Malkin, Phil, Letang, and Hornqvist all decline around the same time as amazingly they're all within 2 years of each other. I'm all in on this group until that window closes, and they're a better team now with Phil then they'll be if they trade him. |

Yes I don't get why you would trade Philbo. He's had a great impact with this team & he would be very hard to replace. As you say, the Pens are in the now, no use worrying about staying good after the window closes now. All in right now.

That's an easy yes for me. Maybe it's just me because I'm a big fan of both players, but seems like the Ducks wouldn't do this.
Pens get a left winger, on a great contract, who is younger, speedy, and a 30 goal scorer. And we get a talented, hard nosed RH Dman...anddd we dump some deadweight salary. That sure checks all the boxes. I don't want to trade Phil but that'd be the kind of deal I would drive him to the airport. |

They are the NHL and NBC’s favorites, why wouldn’t they win? They were gifted AT LEAST two games in every series so far. I am not happy they knocked the Pens out, but no one can deny that they have gotten there with help. - Doogs
