They are the NHL and NBC’s favorites, why wouldn’t they win? They were gifted AT LEAST two games in every series so far. I am not happy they knocked the Pens out, but no one can deny that they have gotten there with help.

Madden is reporting from his sources that the Penguins will try to trade Kessel this summer. Say what you want about Madden, he doesn't typically make stuff up.
I'd rather keep Phil but since not much else going on in Pens land... anyone care to take a stab at teams that would actually trade for Kessel and what the return might be... |

Kessel at 50% retained, Letang at 99% retained, and 3 consecutive first round picks for Jori Lehtera and a 7th. |

You gotta sweeten that offer a bit, we need a veteran backup tender...add in Bryzgalov and it's a deal. |

Ah, sadly, he is no longer on our roster and is retired from the NHL. However, we do have a heavily-used Michael Neuvirth. He's usually good for a solid 2-3 games in a row before he misses a month with an injury. |

Madden reported them looking to trade Geno before, and looking to trade Kessel last year. I don't really buy into his poop. |

Yes, but you're gonna have to include some used Eric Goddard jock straps. |

I dont think Madden is great at all but I also doubt he just totally lies either. Freidman was saying a while back he wouldnt be surprised if Rutherford "listened" to offers on Kessel to.
I dont think its that bad of an idea really. As long as they get something back that helps them keep contending. From the charts and talk in here people say there is a sharp decline after the age of 30... Kessel will be 31 to start next season. With 4 more years at 6.8 million.... He just had a career season so thats usually called "selling high". Id bet he will be closer to 65-70 points next season then the 92 he posted this season. Still good no doubt. (92, 70, 59, 61 over the last 4 years) 3 of the last 4 with the penguins obviously. Some say he isnt worth to much and others say hes worth a lot so who knows. Would depend on the return for me.
Of course a couple analytics charts need to go with this....

Right so we can only ever speculate trades on a hockey forum if it first comes from Bob Mackenzie. Why does the conversation have to be about Madden? Just wanted to see what y'all could come up with something logical in a Kessel deal. Logic is hard to come by around these parts. |

So Kunitz at 2m with thin scoring is better than Knuckles at league minimum & thinner scoring because his possession stats are better?
Ok. |

Well if we want to talk about dealing Kessel (which I will riot if it actually happens) I can do that, but I had to respond to your "Madden doesn't make stuff up" comment. That would be like saying "Skip Bayless isn't a troll".
I'd want a young, top line caliber winger. Basically comparable to Jake Guentzel. A 1st round pick and an -A level prospect. Maybe we also swap a low round pick for a mid round pick as well.
EDIT: The prospect would preferably be a defenseman or a center. |

Would you trade Guentzy for Phil straight up?
Your deal doesn't exist my friend, but I understand why you put it out there. |
