Here's my 2 cents for the offseason based off the comments:

2018:
Assuming no major shakeup happens ( trading Johnson or Killorn or Miller), We will have the cap room to bring back miller if we want (I want). Trading Gourde would be a bad move as he was very productive for his 1 million salary.

2019:
After 2018 (unless my calculations are wrong) that is when decisions have to be made. Except for the roster Yzerman inherited, Yzerman has averaged allocating 55%-57% of salary cap to forwards. Assuming this trend continues and allowing me to guess future contracts signed and future salary caps, you will only be able to keep 2 of the following 4 forwards: Kucherov, Point, Miller and Gourde. Buying out or trading Callahan (I think likely after next year) allows you to keep another forward (Miller or Gourde).

2020:
This is when the expansion draft could happen and you could potentially lose a forward (unless Yzerman pulls off a magic trick). Whoever we lose, (my guess is killorn) his contract will go toward the increase in Vasi's contract.

We're not in trouble, we just have decisions to make. For 2019 the question is, who do you like more: Gourde or Miller. Chances are you can only have one!

Oh, and I'm a little doubtful of Foote being able to make the jump next year the AHL. From watching highlights throughout the year and a couple of his games, he really needs to work on his skating. Barbara Underhill has her work cut out for her. She has been able to do some AMAZING things with our organization (Please see Point as reference #1), but getting Foote's skating ability ready for the NHL by the start of next year would be her Mona Lisa to Da Vinci!

Also minor critique on Foote that I think is easily fixable. He tends to drift away from the net to the middle of the slot when the puck gets passed by the other team to the point! Maybe because of his foot speed he's trying to get a head start on the offensive transition if the forward steals the puck but in the NHL, two quick passes and he's let in a back door goal. Like it said....minor adjustment. Other than his "drift" thing I love his defensive positioning. I think he starts the year in the AHL...hopefully along side a strong, mentoring, veteran FA signing and is a late season callup!

"like he once was" Are you talking about his ONE 72 point season and not the other 4 seasons where he CONSISTENTLY hovers around 40-50 points? If anything he has been scoring exactly like he has been.

yes because hes been dealig with injuries during these seasons.
i think he would get a decent return and i think this group is not getting it done and poop has to happen. a shake up. not a major overhaul. johnson out and some bottom 6ers out is a shake up, with hopefully a decent return

then what would people say when Hedman went scoreless the first 2 series ?

Its not his job to score goals. I always saw him as Defense first guy that puts points because hes that good. Like Lidstrom, it just kinda happens.

age curve is different for every player. no one can predict at what age a player is going to start slumping lol
